Need to make sure this is right (HID's)
My friends say that they have a buddy who can get an upgraded kit for my HID's, so that they will be a higher K rating (7000 and up, I believe). They say regularly, it's around $500 or so, but they can get it for $300. They also say that I need a special upgraded kit for this, and I cannot just buy 7000K and up bulbs and put them in there (which, I imagine, would be cheaper than $300). So I have 2 questions:
Who is right - do I really need new harnesses and such for a hiher K rating bulb? And also, if they are right, is $300 considered to be a good deal? Thanks. |
yes and yes since the GD Deals are going around $330
|
All you need are new bulbs. No need for the while kit.
|
Hmm, two answers that conflict with one another... so which is it? :)
|
well i know the price seems right, as far as the wiring harness goes, :gotme: not sure if those new bulbs will either fit and melt your oem wiring harness
|
Kelvin rating only changes the colors and not the output - so i'm assuming it will put out equal or less lumens. Which means, it's probably using the same - if not less - power than the OEM.
That said, you only need the bulbs. |
Yup. higher K value is just different color. Higher k does not = higher wattage/light output

Thanks for the info!
Now, I have another inquiry: is it possible, given what you have told me, that my friends are talking about something that has a higher K rating AND a higher light output, and consequently a higher wattage which would need new harnesses and such? |
No, they're referring to an HID retrofit kit. You don't need that.
|
What's that? What does it do? How come I don't need that?
|
Cause you already have HID's in your car. He's referring to cars that don't have HID's.
|
The guys I am talking about are pretty knowledgeable, and they know I have HID's. They called it an "HID upgrade."
|
Ask them to describe what the "upgrade" entails. Then ask them to describe the HID system in your car.
Chances are, there's not much to the so-called "upgrade". |

put it like this; you got it all- D2R capsules, ballasts, ignitors, wiring if you wanna upgrade, you swap D2R or modded D2S capsules (bulbs) only.... I had KOPS 6000k bulbs which were purple and now I run KOPS 7000k D2S modded bulbs which are blue with a hint of white |
what if you still want your light to be white mostly, but the main goal is over all brightness and output? what kind of bulbs are the one to go with?
