anyone having this problem. my **** wont' stay still (.....waiting for the perverts to stop laughing.....ok done). when it's where it's supposed to be, it still wants to rotate more. and it finally gets firm when 1 is to the right and 6 is to the left. in other words, 90 degress OFF from what it's supposed to be. SUX.
anyone else have this problem and know a solution. i'm about to use my "dump this and buy a nice ****" method.

I don't have this problem because mine is an auto. But, you could try wrapping a thin layer of electrical tape or white teflon tape (used for plumbing) around the tread and then screw the **** on. It might allow the **** to be tight in the right position.

its all about starting to thread the **** in the right position. you say its 90 degrees off to the clockwise side. so unscrew it and start threading it 90 degrees further to the counter clockwise side. it takes a few tries but eventually you'll find the right point.

 

"Newman" Sorry but its only a single thread and only starts correctly in one position, he has to tighten it around one more turn till tight or add like teflon tape to make it tighter without this extra turn. Mine did it and I had to turn it one turn tighter and its been fine ever since.

 

but I didn't need teflon tape... just turn it one more turn. The 'reverse collar' still has full range, too, and the **** has never moved since. The last 90 degrees of the turn isn't easy, but nothing broke.

 

well it worked for me. i had the same problem until i did what i suggested you do. you might want to give it a shot anyway.

 

Since we are talking about shift *****, anyone else have a loose insert (the one with the shift pattern in it)? Is there a screw to tighten it up when the **** is removed?

 

Just use Teflon tape as was previosuly mentioned, I did and it worked perfectly.

You own a 2K2-2K3 IMO their on warranty!!

Call your dealer and he would maybe change the **** for a new one

 

Because a new one is going to do the same thing

I'm not bringing it in for warranty work just to have them turn the **** one more full revolution.

The car is under warranty for something like this up to 36,000 miles. I went through that in about 15 months of owning the car. Not worth the hassle for something this small. Powertrain is the only thing that concerns me now as far as warranty repairs go, until I hit 60,000 miles in a few more months.

 

In my 4th gen I used 3m exterior trim glue and the **** stayed on just fine. Its like $5. I had to put a piece of trim on my other vehicle so I already had it lying around to try out.

 

I had this same problem with my 6 speed LSD with the **** would just turn so I kinda know the guy who works on my Max at the dealership and he said bring it in so I did and all he did was crank the **** out of it about 2 more turns and the **** has never moved since then I was afraid I would break something so i thought let him do it.

 

Polo, twist the **** around one more time. It will be difficult and it will take a long time. You might think you won't make it but you will. Your hands will be somewhat sore afterwards but the **** will never move again. I guarantee it.
