Positives and Negatives on the new DDE's

I'm thinking about getting these but just can't come to a conclusion...to buy or not to buy???

What are some negatives of these things? I'm really shakey about opening up my headlights...I didn't have a good outcome with making the AE lights on my 2k max.

What do you guys think, should I get them or not? I personally think they look HOT!

LithiuMax Dec 1, 2003 09:43 PM

Get them, man. The install is not that difficult :)

BigDogJonx Dec 1, 2003 09:45 PM

There really aint any negatives as long as you seal the housing back up correctly.

WildmanAL Dec 1, 2003 09:58 PM

Don't these not use figer optic cables so eventually they will burn out. I think they stated having a life expectancy of 15,000 to 30,000 hours. That is the only thing that gets me. I wasn't planning on opening up my headlights myself, but taking it to someone in New Orleans for the job. Something about having to open them up again kinda scares me.

BigDogJonx Dec 2, 2003 12:00 AM

Even if they were 15,000hr life span, do you know what that REALLY comes out to? That is almost technically more than the life of the car.

Isn't that the lifespan of a HID bulb also?

Its more like 1000-3000hrs.

Igor911 Dec 2, 2003 07:53 AM

hmmm....it's getting more and more tempting!!!!

Hamy Dec 2, 2003 07:56 AM

The reason why i'm not getting them is because of the BMW owners. Around here I'll catch a bunch of sh!t from the Bimmer guys. They HATE when rice boys put these things in their cars. Of course the Max isn't a Civic, but it sure isn't a BMW either. I'd hate to have my car looked down apon just because of one silly mod.

Manaz101 Dec 2, 2003 07:59 AM

I'm also on the fence on these.......

Eh, if you like it, who cares? It's your car.

BTW - I love your wheels.

That's stupid...If I were you, I'd look down upon their cars. I personally don't care what ppl say about my car, It's MY CAR and MY TASTE. I do to it what I want :)

You should feel the same

TitaniuMax03 Dec 2, 2003 08:20 AM

f**k what other car owners have to think..Bimmer owners arent the say so to who should have what or not..your $$, your car...I say get 'em...

Hamy Dec 2, 2003 08:20 AM

I agree with the both of you on the fact that its my car. I bought the Maxima to be different. Of course you dont have to deal with stuck up BMW drivers on a daily basis either. Back to topic though, the DDE look great, the install should be easy and for $150 you cant beat it. I know guys that pay twice that much for something that looks lame in comparison.

jeepik Dec 2, 2003 10:04 AM

THe 5 series and the X series BMW lights still look better and more of a complete circle...if he found a way to make them as a complete circle and not 3/4th of a circle it would be much better

to me it looks weird without the top of the light having the DDE ring

Yeah, thats one of the things thats holding me back :slant:

totally round is g@y.....looks much better the way they are. ever seen a civic with fully round lights. they look disgusting. then again, it's also cause those headlights are so damn small.

LithiuMax Dec 2, 2003 12:14 PM

Fully round looks weak, in my opinion. And seriously, the DDE's are like 1000x brighter than the OEM BMW ones.

get on aim, we need to talk some more :)

Black2000maxima Dec 2, 2003 12:17 PM

really, the only negative to these for us NY/NJ ppl is the sheer fact that its more money blown, if the lights are stolen.... then not only are u down 2 headlights, the bulbs, ballasts, ignitors, wiring and damage to the surrounding body areas but also the $150 in DDE's and whatever u spent on the install

Igor911 Dec 2, 2003 12:54 PM

hmmmm, My brother likes them too

Igor911 Dec 2, 2003 09:18 PM

OK I'm Sold!

Just paypal'd

Thanks Matt! :)

Hamy Dec 2, 2003 09:21 PM

Congrats!! I'd have to say you have the sickest lighting setup here on the ORG. I can't wait for the pics!

umnitza Dec 2, 2003 11:40 PM

Sorry to intrude fellas, but I have two opinions that you might be interested in...

1) I was driving tonight in front of LithuiMax, we wanted to change a few things about his setup to make it perfect. Seeing him driving behind me was something you guys have yet to experience. It was intimidating, mean, get the f@ck out of my way. The car simply looked like it was staring you out of its way.

2) On a personal level, I'm a BMW owner, have been over 4 years now. Actually, have two of them - lots of luck - dot bomb economy what not. Anyways, I love them on any cars when done right on any car.

There are two reasons we wanted the Maxima:
a) there is a natural inward slope to the lights that is only present in one other car, this natural slope makes it particularly menacing.

b) we wanted to do what you asked us for all along. We really want to make it to the customer specs no matter what:D

my cars - love them - Anyone want them? Ask LithuiMax how much fun I have with them:D

Uh.. yeah, so I almost shat myself a few days ago in Matt's 1998 M3. Good lord, that car does NOT stop pulling... what was it, 115k miles on it? Seemed like 15k, haha. The engine purred, the idle at speed in neutral was perfect, and the handling (albeit on a long bank turn, no twisties) was retardedly sick - we were going fast.. like, 115 or so I think, and there was not a hint of instability in the car. Simply amazing.. oh, and the 740i is not slouch either. Surprising speed for such a heavy car.

That bastard Matt has the best of both worlds ;)

umnitza Dec 2, 2003 11:49 PM

nah, the wife drive's the 7.
It's rarely seen going below 100 on the freeways though.

Thank god for the V1 :D

Just like what I expected out of a bimmer. Even the 325Ci or 330Ci handles wayyy better than stock 2002 Maxima.

Ah yes.. a V1, my next "must find cheaper than anywhere else while still maintaining a sense of legitness" project.. is legitness a word?

umnitza Dec 3, 2003 12:30 AM

if you call Valentine and ask for a factory refurbed you get $359 price.

They never have them in stock, but if you call every day, you save $50:)

Triple8Sol Dec 3, 2003 01:20 AM

I am really close to gettting these. Just one worry: what happens when one of the rings happens to go out a couple years down the road?

umnitza Dec 3, 2003 01:22 AM

They won't.

Of course, anything is possible.

We have 6 customers now running way past 8 months with them and nothing.

Of course, there's always a danger that 2 years from now you could have a flat tire too;) :D

Triple8Sol Dec 3, 2003 01:24 AM

So what, if any, warranty do you offer on these?

ryand.white Dec 3, 2003 01:26 AM

What's the difference between a porcupine and a BMW? The porcupine's pricks are on the outside.

umnitza Dec 3, 2003 01:37 AM

you get 30 days.
after that, the likelihood that anything will fail is slim and none.

What's the difference between a BMW driver and a snake? Everyone's hissing at the BMW driver:D
