NCTRNL Dec 10, 2003 02:05 PM

Yeah, those are probably the HID's off of someone's car on this site...did you make sure they have the actual bulbs and ballasts in them, and they aren't just the shells?

ara662 Dec 10, 2003 02:11 PM

Hmm Good Q'n. They look like they have bulbs in them and the ballasts. ???

Tony@INSL Dec 10, 2003 02:12 PM

Stolen Hids

ara662 Dec 10, 2003 02:15 PM

Bought them from some russian so yeah probably stollen. :) LOL

Clearsky Dec 10, 2003 02:41 PM

When my HID's got stolen 2 wks ago... I went on eBay and I saw this guy selling 6-8 of our HID's with the same description.... funny thing is he was so lazy that he used 6 identical pictures for all his items. GOTTA be stolen!

MONTE 01&97 SE Dec 10, 2003 02:45 PM

Man Nissan need to recall all 02/03 and engrave our Vin numbers somewhere on them so we can catch some of these thieves.

ara662 Dec 10, 2003 03:05 PM

So how do they steal the HID's. Pry open the hood???

MannyNJ2k2max Dec 10, 2003 03:11 PM

no they buy'm off ebay- you might as well stole them yourself.... you're contributing to the problem-

Unless you'll get a surprise when they come to your doorstep ( no ballast/bulbs/harness)

ara662 Dec 10, 2003 03:22 PM

Whoa Whoa ... First of all no one knows if there stolen or not dont jump to conclusions.

Larrio Dec 10, 2003 03:37 PM

its just a very sensitive issue. You get one seller on ebay with 5-8 of the same auctions selling 2k2 HIDs for $250-$550 which is less than half of the market price.

they don't come in boxes, some have broken tabs, some are missing ballasts and bulbs and the seller is based out of NY/NJ or some other high area of theft concentration

when i bought my A.E. headlights off DaveB, they came in NISSAN boxes shipped from japan with no english on them. Its not that people are saying that just cause they are on ebay they are stolen. But lots of people have had their lights stolen and the ebay auctions seem a little shady sometimes.

I can't believe you joined this site 2 years ago, have 138 posts, and haven't stumbled across the basic stuff about the HID problem. They rip them right out of the car, it takes 20 seconds. There's different ways they can do it, whether they choose to be neat or not with the job.

Bottom line is buying them off of Ebay is the LAST thing you should do. I buy stuff occasionally off of ebay, but with this specific problem of HID theft, I wouldn't risk it given the likelyhood that they could be stolen. There is a (very) good chance they are stolen and you have no way of assuring yourself that they aren't until you get the package at your door, if you even get them. Ebay sucks in that regard, that you have no recourse against someone if they sell you something that isn't as promised. You might get HIDs, and maybe they are off the guy's car or maybe he stole them.......that's the problem, you never know.

It doesn't help that the seller only has 2 feedbacks and registered a month ago. Just too shady for me. Just my opinion, good luck.

MannyNJ2k2max Dec 10, 2003 03:56 PM

No 5.5th gener in their right mind would sell their HID's - not for $500 when they cost nearly $1300 a set- So they have to be stolen

What do you think 2k2-2k3 owners have wet dreams of AE headlights on their cars....:wall:

HKSturboKid Dec 10, 2003 05:26 PM

unless they work for nissan and stole it from the parts department....

redstradic Dec 10, 2003 05:33 PM

Yeah i had bid on two sets of HIDS from him as well as a set of brand new tires and wheels he was selling. The lights went for 305 each and the wheels went for 345. I then saw he was only excepting money orders and cashier checks and i retracted my bid because i was not going to send that much cash to a guy i didnt know!

You know what they say "one org members stolen HIDs are another org members treasure"

Buddy, you got 6 times the number of posts I have. Maybe you should take some of your own advice. Get your head out of your ***, the lights aren't legit.

(Let me edit my post to have some sort of value)
You asked if you got a good deal, I gave you my opinion on the subject. I just think it's not a good idea to buy HIDs on ebay, given the high possibility they might be stolen. Also, I think HID theft is one of the most repetitive topics on here, so even if you come on here once in a while since I know you got a life and are very busy, chances are you'll see something about it that should catch your eye if you're considering buying them. I know I see threads about it a lot more than I'd like to.

Relax, I wasn't attacking you, I was trying to help you out.

Ammi Dec 10, 2003 06:22 PM

they could be stolen but they could be legit. Hopefully it's a complete set; not missing ballast or anything

HKSturboKid Dec 10, 2003 06:44 PM

All I can say is my car is park in front of my house and I have a BAT waiting in my front door. As soon as I hear something, I'll rush to the Door, grab my bat and you figure out the rest....

Ammi Dec 10, 2003 07:03 PM

what if they sue you? Many thieves win their cases :)

I saw something pretty disturbing today coming home from work. I saw a black GLE with its headlights hanging from a few wires. The fender had some scratches on it like a crowbar was taken to it. Luckily the head lights were not taken. It was a lady driving the max. I rolled down the window to try to get her attention to ask what happened but the light turned green and she drove away... I hope this doesn't become a trend around here. This was in San Mateo by the way. Fukc these fukcing theives.

FanaticMadMax Dec 11, 2003 12:30 AM

Two words: BUYERS BEWARE. It's very risky, because HID theft has been an issue for some times. When it comes to ebay, there isn't much recourse if they were missing a ballast or bulb, or whatever that may be. So I would send him a question, ask him for additional picture up close, from whatever angle you want, so you can see if the condition and if it's stolen. So good luck with that.

Tony@INSL Dec 11, 2003 07:21 AM

It all comes down to this. The more people buy off ebay; the more they steal our HIDS. Plain and simple.

Well, we just have to play their game the same way. I'll wear a hockey mask with a hooded sweater as well. Walk up to them and beat the crap outta them. Tie them on a lamp post and hand a sign by their neck saying "I a lowlife steal HID for a living" and then call the police. You can't sue who you don't know beat ur @ss.

MyownNismo Dec 11, 2003 09:54 AM

See now that you bought the lights you have to hook them up. The only people that have the write-up will only give you the instructions if you have proof that there not stolen. Buying from Ebay isn't really going to help you there. I bought mine from a fellow org. member and had to prove it.

Ammi Dec 11, 2003 09:59 AM

Yeap. I'll help out w/ instructions as long as I see proof that they are legit.

That is EXACTLY the conscience that perpetuates the problem.

Good luck figuring out how to install them.

Ammi Dec 11, 2003 10:25 AM

I said I would help out whoever can proove w/ receit that HIDs are legit.
