it just happened today, driving in the morning, w/ moderate rain fall. i went over a puddle, and i probably spun my wheels for a split second, and then i went over 2 bumps. I then heard a bump in the engine. The rpm now doesn't go over 2.2, and the max speed of my car is 40 mph. This is the second big problem of my max. last june i had my whole transmission replaced by the dealer, and my car had been running perfectly fine since then.
i heard about max's that shut down the engine if there was too much stress on it, (not sure where i heard this) but did anyone ever expericience this? is this just a ECU problem, or actual motor failure. i have now about 37k+ miles, so i'm probably out of warrenty. hope this don't cost that much $$$. |
i'm guessing you have a stillen or other cone intake...let me know...i had one and had the same problem...a lot of people on this board have had this problem...many of them just unplugged the battery to reset the ecu but i was stupid and kept the intake on and brought it into nissan (this is before i knew ANYTHING about cars)...they said the intake took in water or something and it messed up my mass air flow meter (checkout other recent posts on MAF)...they said my warranty was voided and it ended up costing me around $900 or so to have them get a new mass air flow meter and put everything back to stock

ya i have a cone intake. thanks man, and i'll do the search for MAF.

My 4th gen would act the same way after spining tires on ice or snow. It would loose power and start in 2nd or 3rd gear.

dam! the car doesn't start anymore. Actually, it does but it turns off after half a second. Battery and oil lights are also on now. does it mean i have to take it to the dealer now?
|
mine came on because my gas cap was too loose supposedly, that light is always for something stupid.

I had the similar problem when the cone intake had slightly come off of the MAF meter. Double check to make sure that there is a snug and complete fit around the hose.

xelz, take off the cone intake and put everything back to stock...then take it over to the dealer...they will fix it under warranty...(it should work, anyways after you put everything stock on...if it does...say f*ck you to your cone and toss it like i did...i'm going to go w/ place racing because nobody (to my knowledge) has had any problems w/ their intake so far)

this is the problem i have, well 2 big problems. 1... my stock air box is about 400 miles away.. i'm away at school, and that i called the dealership, and i think my warrenty expired, 36k/3 years, and i have 37.5k miles.. oh well i'm just thinking of towing to nearest dealership and paying whatever they charge me w/

i actually talked to a guy today about warranty issue stuff...basically, he has installed turbos that put the engine over 1000hp and has gotten the motor replaced under warranty when it blows...you have to be very firm with them when they tell you that the warranty is void (which they will)...tell them that according to the guidelines, they have to prove to you without a shawdow of a doubt that it was, in fact the intake that caused the problem...if they say it is your mass air flow meter (as they told me) tell them to test your mass air flow meter on another maxima and if it works, they are not correct (apparently it is very difficult to blow a MAF)...
remember, they have to prove WITHOUT A SHAWDOW OF A DOUBT that the warranty was voided because of the intake..be very firm with them and be sure to talk to the service manager etc...even call nissan usa if you need to (it will be well worth it to save the $900 i spent for the new MAF |
You have 5 years (dont' remember the mileage, prolly around 60k) warrenty for drivetrain!!!!!!
