Is it worth purchasing Nissan's extended service agreement?
I have an 02 SE....I purchased the Bronze (5 year or 75k) Service Agreement when I bought the car. I have 50 miles left before I hit 36k. I have been contemplating purchasing a better Service Agreement.....ie: Silver, Silver Preferred, Gold and Gold Preferred. FYI...Gold Preferred is bumper to bumper.
I was qouted @ $1200 for the Gold Preferred. My question....anyone purchase these agreements and can the price be negotiated? Thanks!!! |

i was reading about this in car and driver, and it all depends on how long u want to keep your car.. just what jjs said.

can this still be purchased if i buy from a different manufacturers lot?
(buying used max at new toyota or saturn dealer) |
i bought the extended warranty when i bought my car. my plan was a silver, which carries a deductible of $50. and i remember i had to pay close to $2000 for it too. so i think $1200 for the Gold Preferred is very reasonable, considering it carries almost no deductible.
having said that, i've probably used about 3-4 minor(alternator, reverse light switch, clock bezel and a catalytic convertor) warranty claims before the 100,000 mile limit. so go figure. |

Check out warrantydirect.com. I purchased their "bumper to bumper" coverage for 5yr/100k on my '03 for around $1300 with no deductable. Three great things about going aftermarket:
1. You can choose whatever mechanic you like - This is great if you're not happy with your local Nissan dealer service or have a favorite local shop 2. You get roadside assist, towing, and a free rental car when it's in the shop. 3. If you have a few mods, your local mechanic is far less likely to make a stink about it - he gets paid either way! |

Have you had a chance to use this warrenty and if so how did it work out. How many miles do you have and at what millage did you get the extended warrenty? |
I got the gold for $900 five months ago when I bought my used max. I just used it for the first time to replace a defective/blown strut - interestingly, the service agreement manual says it doesn't cover struts, but maybe it means "worn struts" not defective/blown struts and they did it under the warranty (at a different dealer than I bought it from). There was a $50 deductible. I have it to 4 years/100,000 miles. If you drive alot of miles, shorten the time of the warranty and max out the miles (to 100,000 like I did). If you don't drive many miles, do the opposite...that will affect the price of it. Seems like it's worthwhile, since I paid 900 for it and the shop said it would have been about 300 to do the strut....so I've used 250 of 900 so far..with 60,000 miles to go!

It's a good idea to go with the gold.

I purchased at 29k - this was important because pricing is based on current milage, age of vehicle, and remaining factory warranty. I could've saved $100 had I bought the extended from them when my car was new. In my case, the rate would've went up another $100 if I had over 30k at time of purchase. |
