.................My friend has an Eclipse GSR that's fully dressed!! (ie body kit..ETC) He just got in an accident last week. It wasn't his fault but the other insurance company wont pay for the mods. What a crock!!!

my sister works for an insurance company and she keeps telling me that the insurance company has to return the car to the condition it was in before the accident. take pictures and keep receipts in order to prove what all was on your car.

I think this is true... to a point. Say you dump $10k into your car. You're really upping the value. At which point I believe you would need to contact your insurance company and have them inspect your car (see the mods on the car) so that it's fully covered. Your rates might go up. But ya gotta CYA.

I'm with Progressive and they will cover custom mod's. But its like a double edge sword. You have to claim those upgrades and mods, and when you claim these your rates will increase. Just for fun go to progressive's website and get a free quote. Enter everything one way and then go back and add a value for the custom accessory box...notice a difference...you should. The rate just increased.

I work at geico, and we cover any mod but custom turbo's, as long as you tell us the cost and provide proof of how much they cost.

i'm pretty sure that as long as you have proof that the stuff was on your car, the inusrance company is required to return the car to the condition prior to the accident.

That's not true.
Insurance companies are only required to replace original equipment only.
For example, if you put in an aftermarket cd player in your car, and have an accident, the insurance company is only required to put the original stereo back in if it's damaged.
However if you tell the company about it, and they cover it, then they will replace it.
