my 2000 Se -broken exhaust and how I fixed it

Well I didn't fix it myself. 2000 SE w/ about 53k miles.

I went to the local Nissan dealer for a SES light and figured I would have them look over the car.

They found two bad oxygen sensors see this thread:

I also knew my exhaust was broken n the usual spot, the flange just in front of the wheel well. They took a look at it and said it needs to be replaced from the flange back, the whole thing, it was gong to be $400 for the muffler alone. I told them don't bother, I will take it somewhere, and get an aftermarket exhaust put on it and save some bucks. After I said that weas the only good thing they said which was "good idea you'll save some money." Yeah, you bet I will. I went to a local mechanic and told them to take a look. If you can fix it, excellent, if not, lets look through the book at soome aftermarket exhaust. Ha called me at the end of the day, and told me I could come pick up the car, it would cost me $50. So what did he do, cut the flange off, got some exhaust pipe slipped over both ends so it formed a sleeve, and welded it up. He said that will hold a long time, and it was crazy to replace the exhaust, its in great shape. He did say that it would have cost about that much money to replace it though.
He will now be my go to man.

Just something to think about.
