I'm a novice here, but I've just been through a coil problem and I'm investigating a separate possible MAF problem. Error codes would be the first tip-off. If a local Autozone will hook up a scan tool, you should get a P0100 for the MAF and a 1320 for coils. I definitiely had one or more bad coils, with two separate diagnoses. The coils were clearly a matter of intermittent rough running - as the coil cut out more frequently, the misfires became so bad the engine was shaking and the SES light would flash. It was more noticeable at acceleration (especially going uphill) when there's more stress on the engine than at idle. I parked the car for a week and ordered the coils. When I changed the coils this problem immediately went away and the SES light went out. Stalling in neutral or park persists - another problem. Maybe the MAF, as spark plugs were black indicating fuel and air are not mixing right.
