Berk Intake - K&N or Apexi?

Whats the difference between the two? Does one flow better or give better gains? Is there a difference in sound?

Search on google you will get your answer. The Apexi only gives about 1hp more than the K&N. But I dont believe in a non-cleaning filter because its going to get dirty no matter what.

Thanks, so basically it doesn't really matter which one I get?

Could not have said it better myself! I just ordered one with the K & N. Bryan with Berk said that the Apexi will need to be replaced every 3-4 months. They run around $40, you got $120 a year to waste on filters??

Actually they cost about $75 a piece. The Apexi will only give you minimal gains over the K&N and it won't be noticeable. However, the Apexi definately stops more dirt and is constructed much better than the K&N. It also has a nicer growl. I've had both for thousands of miles and prefer the Apexi.

Apparently there is a possibility that the oil on the K&N is prone to damaging the MAF. I bet it would only happen with excess oil, however.

The Apexi will last longer than 3-4 months, hell a fram filter will last you longer than 3-4 months, why would a $75+ filter not last that long..?

Virus 04-19-2004 05:15 PM

Mine lasted a year. It's fairly easy to vacuum out and reuse.

hmm, i acctually heard that the apexi is a little more quiet compared to the k&n and if i remember right i think i heard that from byran.

because its filtered much better then the K%N. They both do a good job, the only reason people prefer the Apexi is because it doesnt have any oil in it while the K&N does. THe oil ruins the MAFs mostly on the 02/03. My 01 is fine with the intake for 50k, so no problems for me knock on the wood

Does the oil on the K&N ruin the MAF on the 00-01's too?

I have had the K&N dropin filter in our 2K Max for about 1 year. I just
cleaned it for the first time last weekend. Never a problem with it.

swapmeetlouie 04-20-2004 11:38 AM

Word. I am running the drop in K&N in my 2K Max and my 4Runner. Never a problem, Im just careful not to over-oil. I just bought the Berk intake from Bryan with the K&N because I already have the filter cleaner and oil.

MAX Fa' Show 04-20-2004 11:53 AM

Hey i was looking at the berk website, and sorry for sounding like a newb, but which one did you purchase?

swapmeetlouie 04-20-2004 01:25 PM

I bought the K&N intake kit that is fs over in the Group Buy section of the classified. $115.95 for the filter, midpipe, gaskets and all the goodies you need. The apexi kit with midpipe is like $165. Killer deal, plus Bryan is a bro.

What's the difference between a K&N and a JWT?

2k3TitaniumSe 04-20-2004 03:10 PM

Get the Apexi. i think it's a olittle quieter than the K&N. When mine gets dirty, I'll probably swith to a K&N filter or get another intake, maybe a Berk with K&N and use it for backup.

They last 30-40K miles, not 3-4 months. I went on mine for about 35K before swapping mine out. That article in MKIV mistakenly says that it is lifetime use. They are zero maintenence, but for 30-40K miles. After that, they need to be replaced.
