SE-R shifter vs Maxima's

Does anyone know if the shifter from 6-speed Sentra SE-R is the same as 6-speed Maximas?

hct67 Apr 28, 2004 11:53 AM

I Wish

I Wish is was the same because if it was I would buy it and replace the way to long of a shifter my 03 Maxima has. The only thing I am hoping since no one is making one for the 03 Maxima is that the New Altima SE-R will have a short shifter this fall and I can get one of those!!!

B&M makes a nice one for SE-R :( I am planning on pulling my shifter out, studying it and I will try to get one manufactured with a shorter throw. Depending on costs, might be able to get a few produced if people are interested.

My brother in law has an '03 SpecV which shifts much nicer than my Max. I find no notchiness with it whatsoever, and it is almost Honda smooth.

they might have fixed it then in 2003 because i think i had a friday car because of all the problems i had with it

what about the one from the G35??? wouldnt that fit?

Vadim Apr 30, 2004 12:13 PM

G35 is a RWD car. I believe the shifter sits right on the tranny.

I agree, the Maxima shifter is awful. It needs to be cut down about 2 inches. It should be essentially a metal rod that then connects to the linkage. You could cut a section out of the rod and re-weld it lower. Its not quite the same as the nice aftermarket short shifters, but it will reduce the throw.

I need to get around to doing this instead of just talking about it

my little brother has a 02 spec v which i am currently drivign because i need new tires for my max.. the throw IS shorter.. but it is also notchy, especially 1st-2nd shift...

i don't mind my maxima shifter... it might be alittle long but it is decent...

after driving my brothers car for almost a month.. i kinda miss my shifter...

MaximaSe2002 May 2, 2004 04:22 AM

yeah i finaly drove a 6 speed max the other day and the shifting is a lot smoother than the specv

BP2K2Max May 2, 2004 08:09 AM

my friend has a spec-V. there is no collar to prevent your from hitting reverse when you try to go into 6th gear as in the 5.5 gens. the first time i drove it i just put the shifter all the way to the right and grinded(ground?) reverse when trying to engage 6th gear. i suppose it takes getting used to.

ga2000 May 2, 2004 01:58 PM

i have a 02 spec v the shifter sucks. very noisy and notchy. third gear grinds going in ever since 1000 miles on the car when u red line it.. other than that no grind... 6th is easy it takes sometime getting used to but its smooth. and there is a thump so u know u are in the reverse gate. its not a lock out but u do know u are going into reverse its ALL THE WAY over and down. :)
