Foglight's On w/ Highbeams **WRITE UP**

Well I've wanted to do this for a long time and finally got it figured out!

Here is the write up. On a 2000-2001 maxima the wire color will be GREEN/YELLOW and on 2002-2003 the wire color is GREEN.

Enjoy :)

Outstanding post. I have done all the other light mods and I have been wanting to do this also.

00MaxSE May 1, 2004 09:29 AM

Wow, that's really simple to do. I'll have to try it out. Thanks Igor!

limsandy May 1, 2004 09:31 AM

Thanks.... :D

So basically we're just grounding the green wire. :)

nice. here i thought i was done with messing with the wiring.

Empz May 1, 2004 11:29 AM

WOW WOW ... Super Sweet!!

Just one question ... where did you choose to Ground that wire to? I'm trying to make out where that last pic you posted is!!!

Empz May 1, 2004 11:37 AM

Hehe now if you could just find a way to have the 'Corner Lights' only come on with the 'Fog lights' and turn off when the 'Headlights' are on ... then all my lighting dreams would be complete!

Cuz right now my dilema is either Tape one of the little nubs, so when my headlights are on, my 'Corner lights' are off ... BUT ... the look so good with just my Fog lights on and no headlights!

custommaximaSE May 1, 2004 11:41 AM

Great info man .Thanks:thumbsup:

Good work Igor. Looks simple enough. I'd also like to know exactly where you grounded it though...

I won't drop the line that I gave him the idea after studying the 2000's schematics :wall:

nah j/k, Igor did a great job, I gotta go do this to mine soon

My next lights-related mod after that is I want to take a junkyard headlight combination switch stalk, and see if I can rewire it so the parking lights do not dim the interior lights... (in which case, the parking light selection now becomes the perfect Daytime Running Lights :jump: )

thread May 2, 2004 05:35 AM

does the site work for anyone else? for some reason no cardomain site works...was wonderin if this was happenin for anyone else. I would really like to do this mod, but cant without the writeup :p

atleast now we know the idea worked :)

Hell yeah man, I'm glad the mod is as simple as I thought. The parking lights interior dim mod may be more involved; I'll have to try it whenever I get ahold of a junkyard stalk :wall:

Trance Artur May 2, 2004 10:15 AM

I thought that it's bad to have fogs and high-beams on at the same time.

who said it was bad? I drive thru areas at night where its PITCH black and deer everywhere. Whats soo bad about being able to see where im going?

Also, to those like myself who have HID's in the fogs, its bad for them to go on and off when u highbeam someone...this way they stay on.

This is the ULTIMATE lighting mod. :king:

† ErV † May 2, 2004 04:15 PM

it's 8pm on a sunday and i am bored. going out to do this right now.

Cubanato May 2, 2004 06:31 PM

hey guys i tried this and did it the way it said to....but the problem it during the day when the hids are off...and i flash teh high beams...my hids flash as well

now i have to go back and put it back to normal tomm :deezo:
-J

DonGfun May 2, 2004 06:52 PM

will this also allow the fogs to go on with just the corner lights or is that more involved :(

thread May 2, 2004 07:01 PM

with corner lights, i assume you mean parking lights, and no, I believe that is more involved, or at least reading the write up it looks more involved...I also believe it involves wiring the fogs to the lights...where as this is just grounding a wire

The HIDs always flash with the highbeams regardless if you do the re-wire or not.

This doesn't address that--you have to do the standard Foglight Rewire in the relay box under the hood for that. This is just a "stage 2" foglight rewire that allows you to have your fogs with the highbeams.

If by bad you mean, is it illegal. Yes, it's illegal. Fog lights aren't supposed to be run with high beams - this is why the car comes wired this way.

But hey Igor, great find! But you may warn people of its legality - this may deter some. Apparently not me though. As I type this I'm running rewired fogs, clear corners... :grinno:

It's really common sence that it's illegal...but when i get a chance I'll add a line or so in the write up.

Igor911 May 4, 2004 12:19 PM

bump for those who missed it

IceY2K1 May 4, 2004 03:12 PM

Cool...I knew someone would figure that out for me.

VQ-POWER May 4, 2004 07:35 PM

Does anyone know how to remove the steering wheel column? Yes, I know.... :newbie:

I'll probably figure it out when I look at it, but a how-to would be nice. Thanks. :)

thread May 4, 2004 10:04 PM

uhm, there is a how to...more over I believe look at kpazzo's site since I believe thats the one talking about changin the ignition light...if it isnt his site, then Im sorry for getting the wrong name, but check the how-to section and I believe on 4th page is the link to one of kpazzo's how tos, just goto page 1 and find the page talkin about ignition light...or, just remove 5 screws and pop off the top first the the bottom (not really a pop off, more like a pull and lift up...its plastic so as long as you dont yank it or anything you have a little wiggle room of bending it)

thread May 5, 2004 04:24 AM

ok, you wanna remove the column....i was wrong, thats about removing the little steering wheel cover...my bad....if you read this post before, I figured out how to ground the wire, I also figured out how to remove the lower dash, damn sometimes you gotta damn near use the jaws of life to get some of this stuff off...LOL
