Can't search so... Rotor replacement suggestions?
 

Hi All,
I know this has been discussed, but I can not search. I need new pads all around and new rotors up front. I can't believe OEM's are toast already (at 25,500K miles on 03' SE Auto), and I don't even drive hard!
What after market rotor will offer longer life, and what pads offer longer life and are quiet?

I just put brembo blank rotors on my 01 max a few weeks ago. Short of spending the extra $$ for slotted or drilled rotors, it seems like the brembo blanks are the best and cheapest option (about $50/ea vs. over $100/ea for OEM rotors). Also, slotted/drilled rotors may be a little louder than blank rotors. I went with the OEM pads from nissan/dave b. They cost more than similar aftermarket pads but they'll last a lot longer. A friend of mine uses cheap $20 aftermarket pads and they only last him 30k so it's not worth it for me. My old pads were only about 30% worn and they had 33k miles on them. Ticked me off I threw away slightly used pads but my rotors were warped bad. Don't know if you can get a longer life pad than the OEM pads, plus they're quiet. Why would you need new pads in the rear? They shouldn't be worn down that early (25.5k). I wouldn't buy the rear pads unless you need them. My rears still have a lot of life left.

Two things I learned while doing the job myself is get a wrench with a long handle (borrowed neighbors 3ft. socket wrench, makes it really easy to break the mounting bolts) or a pipe to put over a regular wrench will do, and be sure to wash the rotors in soap and water to clean the oil off the rotors otherwise the oil will get on your pads and they'll stop like crap. Neighbor didn't wash his and had to scrap his new pads. Hope this helps.

Does either of you know of a repair manual for the 5th generation? I have a Haynes for my ST1100 motorcycle and it details how to fix everything. A great book. I have not seen one for max....

btw powerslots and brembo rotors will warp too, as you can see if you do a search of the org.

btw. There is a Haynes manual for the 5th gen max, but it also includes the 4th gen max as well so there is some overlap....I have it and it's been useful.

Well I had 24500 miles on my 03 maxima with the rotors already cut once. So I decided to spend a little money and not worry about hassles in the long run since Nissan told me that my rotors were warped again and since the last cut the 12,000/12 month warranty was passed. So I decided to be safe and get some quality rotors and pads for the Maxima.

Brembo blanks or Brembo custom drilled/slotted rotors are popular choice.

I got them at the Brake Pro's amd they have been nothing short of perfect. They work even better then the OEM rotors and pads. With the OEM Pads and Rotors if I had to make a sudden stoip at high speeds they wouldn't grab as tightly as I wanted. Now with breaking in the X Drilled and Metal matrix pads I had to make a sudden stop on the Parkway doing 80mph and there was no problem at all. No pedal give, no juddering, no pull. Just a nice and very comfortable straight stop. The Brake Pro's are at Stillen. Just type in a search in any browser for The Brake pros and you will find them. Alot of companies use the Brake Pros which means they are a reputable company in my eyes.

Where could I find Brembo rotors? And what do you guys recommend, slotted, crossed drilled or blank rotors?

Thanks for the info, I'll check them out. If my Brembo's warp, I'll be buying these next. Someone has to make an OEM rotor for 5th gen maximas that won't warp.

you can find Brembo blanks on a few sites. I bought mine from tirerack.com. Not the cheapest deal, but I don't have experience with any other parts site so I just went with tirerack.

This question is for everyone: Is it possible to cut a slotted or drilled rotor? If not, then if they warp, would you have to toss them and get new rotors?

are you referring to the BlehmCo kit or just regular rotors?

If the latter is the case, all you have to do is take the caliper off and pull the rotors off. piece of cake. I suggest you go to your local auto store and buy a Haynes manual for your car.

i got some rotors and pads from www.irotors.com They sell axxis metal master pads and x drilled/slotted rotrs for our cars. They come zinc plated also. I have had them for a yr and they still look great. No complaints from me. BUT What are the main indications that your pads are worn?..i need to know...:shy:
