Can't search, got SES this AM
 

Hi all,

For some reason I am getting permission denied to search this forum, but can post. My 2000 GXE M5 lit the SES this morning--has 64K. Car seems to be running OK. Can someone post a link to where I can find out how to get the code and what the problem may be. Have not bought the factory service manual yet, would like to save warranty trip to dealer if it's something I can do myself.

First off, a SES can indicate almost anything. You need to have the codes pulled before anybody can really help you. If you have an AutoZone, try there. Up here, they pull codes for free.

Once you get the codes we can help you more...otherwise its pure speculation on what the problem is.

Try and get them pulled for free...Dealer is going to charge you around 70 bucks to pull them. Peeves me off. They charge an hours worth of work for about 2-3 minutes of a computer pulling codes. :mad:

Thank you--will go to AZ at lunch and have them hook up an OBD-II. Will post what they find. I wish this were like the Vette, where you can pull/clear exact codes quickly and easily.

I have a friend who drives the new Nissans off the boat and onto the docks. He told me how to reset the lights. Put you cars ignition on Aux and remove the hot battery post, and put it back on. this will reset the light.

Hope it helps, I am going to try this because my light has been on for almost a week. I pulled the code at Autozone and Its a p1147 Fuel Metering so it has something to do with the gas cap..

:rolleyes: He should probably get the codes before resetting them. He might actually want to know what is wrong with the car and then decide what to do from there. :rolleyes:

Depends on the age of the car really. I think 95 and prior are ODBI and you just do a process and it burps up codes. My probe did that. 96 and later, ODBII requires (as far as I know) a computer to pull the codes. I guess progress at it finest!

You are CORRECT i just got a link and its the 02 sensor. BTW I have not reset the sensors by removing the battery post. I am taking it in to the dealer this weekend to have them (the sensors) replaced..

And I still can't search, wonder why.

Car seems to be running fine. A quick Google shows this points to the O2 sensor or cat. Any thoughts? I have a $50 deductible for warranty repairs, so if they (O2) are either a pain to replace myself or $$ I can take it in. Is there no other way to reset the PCM w/o a scanner other than pulling the battery terminal?

here is a copy of the tsb that you will need when you go to the dealer. its covered under 8yr/80k federal emissions warranty.

Yup should be under warranty and at no cost to you. Mine threw a o2 sensor code (P0140) and the o2 were NOT under warranty but the ECM program was. Argued with the service manager enought to allow him to let me do my own o2's (OEM via Dave) versus the 500 bill he wanted to do them.

o2's are not hard at all. Just did mine last night. 22MM open ended wrench for the o2's themselves. I forget the other wrech size but its a small IMPERIAL sized wrench to take of the the 3 screws on the y heat shield. This gives you access to the red corded or front bank o2. Oh yeah...and small hands to rethread the wires back to the top of the engine. Took me most time to do this and reaffix them to the stock mounting positions.

BTW, OEM o2's (Not "universal") can be had from DaveB for 109. I would take it into service if you trust them. Otherwise pull about 225 from your bank account and about 1.5 hours to do the job.

Does anyone know what the codes mean. I have pulled P0430 numerous times. I have been to two dealers and they know of no such "reprogram". I even called NissanUSA, and they didn't know either. I am at my wits end with this car and may have take drastic steps (acura TL).
