Bad Strut/Spring Combo's?

Hi all, I just wanted to know what strut/spring combo's I should stay away from cause of risk of breaking the strut. For example can I pair Eibach springs with stock struts, HP, Gr-2's.....etc. Anyone have problems breaking struts using the stock suspension, the HP's or the Gr-2's with stiffer springs things like that. I don't have a lot of dough to spend and don't need the adjustable shocks. I was thinking of getting maxspeeds for now and using the stock suspension for a while, is this ok?

Thanks :)

P.S. I have a 2002 6sp, ignore my user name :grinno:

a lot of people on stock struts are using maxspeeds and have had no problems. I have maxspeeds with 1 coil chopped and have had no problems for a long while now. I think for like 40k miles now. I like em and yes they are a little rough but they are managable. You still feel the bumps.

But in general reply to your question, SE struts are genereally the only stock struts you want to use if you decide to stay with stock struts.

but beware... they will blow eventually.

I have seen some people say they blow their stock shocks right away, and some have the same experience as ChromeSE5. I would think it has more to with how rough the roads are that you will be driving on. The more bumps, the more work the shock has to do. This means the shock will wear out quicker. I would get some advice on this from someone who drives on roads similar to yours.

Also, you may run into the car becoming a little bouncy with stock shocks. The shocks were not designed to compensate for stiffer springs. Obviously, the best would be to get adjustable shocks. But just keep that in mind when upgrading your suspension.

Maxspeeds and stock SE struts for 30K. I'm still waiting for them to blow to get adjustibles.
