PIAA Super Plasma fog burned out - new PIAA's or HID fogs?
 

After ~6 months of use, one of my PIAA Super Plasmas decided it was time to go, so now I need new fogs. Question is, should I spend more money on bulbs that may burn in another 6 months, or should I get HIDs?

same thing happened to me about a month ago i just got another set of super plasma's i really wanted an hid kit though

I asked the same question last week and got no responses. One of my Piaa went too. I ended up buying a set of Piaa ion crystals...I'll sell you my other working piaa super plasma if you'd like. I haven't used my fogs since the one bulb went out almost 3 months ago.

PIAA bulbs have a 1yr warranty don't they?

are the super plasma's, the best match to the headlight HIDS?

They are the best match to the stock HID capsules.

They are suppose to have a 1 year warranty, call them up and they should send you a replacement. Getting hid's in your fogs is definately not worth it, unless you think it would look better

It is definatly WORTH IT. Maybe I can take you for a ride on some back roads here at midnight?

And thats a 12 noon, with only angle eyes and fogs on...no headlights.

where can I get those fogs.. I'm tires of changing my fogas and headlamps every few months. I'm using PIAA Xtreme white on both fogas and Headlamps......but now I only have the headlamps...too much money to waste on lightsss

I lost a link on how to install HID fogs. Anybody have it saved on their computer?

I had the PIAA's to and they kept burning out. Warranty or not its still a pain in the a$$ to keep changing them out. Go HID! thats what I did. I have the same set up as IGOR911, I posted a write up on the ORG with pics included, but I'm having trouble with the search feature right now. I'll try later and post the link. very nice igor... i sent you an email but never heard from you in regard to your foglights. i have a 2001 max, wanted to put in HID fogs... then upgrade to silverstar in the headlight for a matching color. would you mind telling us what have you got and how much u paid for them ? easy to install ? i have checked out sylvania on their website, and checked out some PIAAs, they r not cheap thou...

Why HID fogs. They loook good on normal days and nights. but once you have heavy or light fog, you won't see anything. The fog diffuses the light being dispersed by the HIDs. If you had halogen fogs, that would be a lot better.

Litrhiumax, stick with the PIAAs. The HIDs for fogs are worthless. Well, except for looks.

Exactly why I got the Piaa ion crystals. I have to drive over a mountain every day to get out of the valley and anytime it rains it gets really foggy. And now I might actually be able to see in the fog. Igor you must have some trouble on rainy nights....all that HID light scattering everywhere...looks great on dry days though.

I don't know what to tell you guys who think HIDs are bad on rainy days? What do you think happens to your HID headlights when it rains? I have the same HIDS as IGOR and I can't speak for him, but myself, I love them at night, in the rain, in the fog, runnin up someones tailpipe for driving too slow. The light is SOO white and bright right in front of the car I can perfectly, FAR better thatn with the factory bulbs, Sorry I'm not going to change my mind. I've seen it with my own eyes.

The reason why real fogs should be yellow color is that the light breaks thru the fog, unlike "white and bright" light that reflects back to you in the fog. Its physics. I have to agree that HID fogs are only for looks.

All I'm saying is that is has been my personal experience (55,600+miles in less than 13 months on my 2k3 maxima) that when I have my HIDS on in the rain at night there is less light than if I had halogens. The HIDS scatter when they hit the rain on the road.

Its elementary, not physics. Look at the angle at which your headlights aim at the ground, now look at the angle of the fogs. See a difference? you should? Thats why fogs are mounted low and aim almost parallel with the road as headlights have probably a 30 -35 degree angle so all that rain can be hit by the headlights, but not with the fogs. There is very little distance between the road and the fog beams , so very little rain is hit to reflect. You'll also notice fogs are aimed very close to the car , not 50 feet out in front. People put hyper white bulbs in their fogs, and the color is close to HID, but not near as bright. When talking of physics angles always play a part.

Actually they had a discussion like this on Hidforum.com and everyone agreed that for bad weather hid fogs are no good. Then again if you dont believe me you can check it out for yourself, that is why i said its not worth it. I agree that your fogs look really good igor im just passing some info from the hidforum to you guys.

in the last 11 years, i have driven in fog twice. how often do you guys really drive in foggy conditions? and if it is that important to have fog lights that are more than looks, install them inside the bumper and use them when its foggy. i can't wait to get them as soon as umnitza has them in stock

As for driving in the rain, I have no issues with that at all.

I think the HID FOG's cost about $400. I dont remember what I paid.

I really wouldn't consider the maxima's fog lights "true" fog lights. I think they fall under driving lights, since true fogs are yellow. And true I see fog every other 364 days out of the year. When it rains, I agree with IGOR no problem, Just clear sailing.
