How much do you pay for an oil change?

Just wondering how much you pay for an oil change with Mobil1 Synthetic Oil...by the way...the 2k is 5 quarts? and with synthetic you only have to change it every 6,000 rather than 3,000 with normal right?

oil capacity with new filter is 4.25. i just pay the cost of the oil and filter for my changes and every other time i replaced the metal gasket. you can change the interval at whatever you want but you may want to get it tested to make sure the car is responding well. i change mine around every 4500-5000 miles. its very easy to change yourself but most places around me charge anywhere from 40-75 bucks for synthetic oil changes.

zachary1988 07-27-2004 07:55 AM

I have the 3.5 and it is very easy to change the oil. I don't know about the 3.0, but I can reach the bolt on the oil pan and the filter without having the car lifted. The only thing is that the filter is very small and needed one of the smallest filter wrench. The whole process for me takes about 40 minutes because of the clean up which I don't mind since I save with five oil changes in a year.

I did my first oil change on my Max since I got it in May and it took me 20 minutes. I replaced the oil filter and changed the oil with Mobil 1. I bought the 5 quarter from Walmart, it cost something like 20 bucks. Definitely, recommend changing your own oil because you know you've down it right and your car hasn't been mishandled by some punk. I also recommend, checking the tire pressure and checking the fluids ( all the sh*t that do when you take it in).

00MaxSE 07-27-2004 09:14 AM

Yeah I bought 5 of the 5 quart jugs from Walmart last year when they were on sale.

I was changing it every 4500 miles, but now after reading in the lubricants forum, I'm going to change the oil and filter every 9k, while changing just the filter half way (4500)

I do the same 5 Qt for 19.95 can't beat that....Mobile 1 Syn (oil) + Mobile 1 M105 (filter)

that's about $30 for an oil change i do about every 3000-4000 miles.....

I know it seems like i'm waisting my money but I change it to keep it fresh....I don't like to keep oil in the car too long no matter what i recommended.

I love my car.

Just paid $70 to have the oil changed as well have the oil and engine air filters changed.

Hoboken, NJ is pretty expensive though.

man, for the price some people pay for cheap oil changes with cheap oil and filter, i do my oil changes with mobile1 synthetic and mobile 1 filter. Im much more satisfied also because I know im doing it right.

Well, I did get mobile1 synthetic, but other than that, you're dead right.

I wish I could do my own oil change.

But I don't have a garage. And my apartment is about the size of a small shoe box, so keeping any car stuff around wouldn't be very practical.

When I finally grow up and move out of the city, I will definitely do my own oil changes.

Clyde.

AKM2k5 07-27-2004 04:41 PM

that really sucks. Before at my old place, i didnt have a garage either, I just did it outside, although im guessing it would be hard if you are at an apartment and they have rules. Maybe you can find an org member willing to help you out.

I used to go to hoboken often....not for the clubs (because i'm 19) but for the girls on the streets and the beautiful atmosphere....

I'd never go there for the oil change. WOW $70 i can do 2 oil changes.... and i know i've done it right.

scopium 07-27-2004 04:49 PM

where do u guys dump the oil?

AKM2k5 07-27-2004 04:50 PM

local river or town water supply.

but you could always go to autozone or advanced auto parts.

most auto repair shops and gas stations with garages have a waste oil tank that they let you dump your dirty oil in (since they make a little $$ for recycling dirty oil)

AKM2k5 07-27-2004 04:54 PM

some places might charge you money to dump the oil, but its always a minor fee.

coachclyde 07-27-2004 04:57 PM

Actually, the $70 for a change of oil and filters is the least of my $$$ worries there. Everything is expensive. I can barely flush the toilet without handing someone a $5 bill.

I shouldn't ***** though. I live in Hoboken because it's cheaper than New York. I couldn't even have a car if I lived there. That would hurt.

I get the car done in Hoboken because I can drop it off on my way to work. I take the PATH train into the city every day. It's worth the extra few bucks to avoid the hassle.

And fortunately, since we bought our Maxima just to drive it around for fun, we don't put a lot of miles on it. Probably about 4,000-5,000 a year. So we don't need to get a lot of oil changes.

Clyde.

How bout some pics of the maxima? The pic on your webpage is kinda scary:

Hilarious man. Glad you checked out the site.

I'll get some up. My wife and I just bought it a couple weeks ago, about two days before I flew out to California for a week, so I haven't had a lot of time to mess with it.

But my friend does detailing and I'm heading to the shore with it this weekend for him to get the Maxima all cleaned up.

That should be a good time. When it's moving, the Garden State Parkway can be a good time. Except for those tolls every 15-minutes that charge 35-cents.

Clyde.

18 dollars at an oil change place in brooklyn, get my windshield wiper filled and they always make sure all the pressures and fluids are accurate or they fix them right there in front of you.

thanks

Nooo, you're being way too nice! It's not because my Maxima is so sexy it's prohibited. I have some rather different reasons, very essential reasons not to post any pics........

I help home with the oil change too, since oil change and tire rotation are my expertize. But soon I'll have to go to the dealer to get that done because I want to get it flushed too and to change the tranny oil and put some ant-slip oil with it too. I wonder how much that's going to be.

AKM2k5 07-27-2004 09:03 PM

I wasn't talking about the maxima :naughty:

Then what is? I still think my Maxima is sexy, I just can't post pics of it.

Um, we need to address this issue elsewhere, I'll PM you tomorrow after class. Per the heading, this is the oil change thread.

00MAXI 07-27-2004 09:19 PM

I ordered 5 oil filters from jerry Rome Nissan (12% discount is always nice) so I wouldn't have to run to the nearest stealer to get them. The stealer only charges $10 if I have my own oil and filter but they are sooo busy stealing from other people and as they hate me, they always tell me it'll take 2 hours for an oil change.

5 Quarter of Mobil 1------$20
Nissan Oil filter--------$3.50

DIY total $23.50
same price as jiffy lube but with MOBIL1 biotch

vsamoylov 07-27-2004 09:31 PM

it is easy to chage it.turn the steering wheel so that the right side tire is pointing outside. take off the plastic cover and you could see the filter. unscrew the filter. for the oil pan you could reach in there and unscrew the bolt. simple.

Maximadmoiselle 07-27-2004 09:36 PM

If it only was that simple to flush the engine though....
