00 SE shouldn't have a governor should it?

Should there be any reason for an 00 SE in 5th gear to hit that "wall" at 132 mph and the throttle to cut off?

AFAIK the GLE with its H rated tires has a gov around 130 and the GXE has one around 118 - or at least that was the case with the 4th gens.

The general agreement is that there is no limiter on 2000 SEs. I know I can do better than 132.

i think it is the se "option" model that doesn't have a limiter. the "option" being the 17" z rated tires.

Hmm, well a stock one has V, which are rated to 155 IIRC...

ok, sorry. i didn't know the 16" se came with v rated tires. i thought it was only the 17". oh, and i got the z and v screwed up. :) i switched mine for z rated pilots. that's why is got confused.

I have a 00 GXE and I have the fuel cutoff at 134. Feels exactly the same as when I hit redline.

Where are all the self-righteous posts condemming SkoorbMax for wanting to go so fast? Where are thine accusers?

Hey, it's legal to go as fast as you want on the track!

I suppose it could have been 134, but I just happened to look down and see at 132. I was sure that the SEs had no limit though...

WHen you say it's like hitting redline, when a person hits redline the car stops accelerating, but doesn't slow. In my case it slowed; the fuel was cutoff. This was exactly the same as the 117 or 118 governor in a 95 gxe I was in one time. I'd run it up to 118 and it would be like somebody just cut the gas off.

Ah that does suck!

I had a 15' Penske moving truck full of apartment stuff, towing my Maxima on a trailer and it had a governor at 90mph. I would definitely recommend Penske to anyone as their policy is to replace all trucks after 42 months, mine was a 2004 with 16,000 miles.

In terms of the Maxima, I had it at 130 and it had not reached the limiter yet, but the acceleration after 100 is less than quick.

I have a 2000 SE with an auto and I have been to 140 a couple of times and over 120 many times. I would like to go higher but I seem to run out of road everytime I've been around 140.

SkoorbMax Sep 21, 2004 04:42 AM

I think that I may have a slightly bad MAF, although it never affects warm driving more than the very occasional surge of power (and in fact I can't remember if it's on this one that that happens or my 97!). Could that have caused this apparent governor?

Maxima-2 Sep 21, 2004 09:50 AM

this is wierd to me! I have a 2000 GXE and I have hit 144 on the speedo, and it felt like it had more!?!

My understanding is that the SE 5spd with 17" tires has no limiter. All the rest are supposed to have a limiter. According to some of the replies some do not - don't know if it is speedo error, though.

:sprint: and then.....

Without looking... If I recall my car is cali spec... Is it possible that fed spec cars have limiters and cali do not?

ChromeSE5 Sep 22, 2004 01:03 AM

I have some 16" rims but my brother brought my car up to around 140mph. The only explanation I could think of was 1.Speedo error (I doubt because I got caught for doing 107 when I was really doing 107 lol) or 2. since my 16" are chrome they could have been special ordered from the first owner and he swapped em out from the factory 17's.

SkoorbMax Sep 22, 2004 06:33 AM

Hmm, how frustrating :) I'd like to try again, but it's not something I'll likely have an opportunity to try anytime soon.
