How's the Sound?

Anybody here on the org have an intake and Y-Pipe only ( with stock exhaust )? I was just wondering how it would sound. I have an PR CAI on order, and am looking into my next possible mod. I'm debating between an exhaust ( Greddy SP-2 ) or the Cattman Y-pipe. I know that the Y-pipe will make more power, but just concerned how it'll sound with just the intake and Y-pipe. Can you even hear any sound difference by adding the Y-pipe to the intake? I just want to make sure that it won't sound like a tin can going down the road. Any feedback will help. Not sure if it matters, but I have a '00 SE.

I say go for the Y-Pipe. The sound will be pretty deep from what I hear, and you will get the most gains from it.

I have the Cattman Y-Pipe, B-Pipe w/resonator and stock muffler. The sound is nice. Definitely a deeper tone, but not very noticable for normal driving. I may add a Cattman muffler next spring as I hear that they are fairly quiet and not as heavy as the Frankencar. I don't have any sound bites, but I think you would be happy with it. I hear people here complain about the Greddy with a Y-Pipe. Just my .02.

Cool, thanks! I' guess I'm torn between having more HP, but still looking stock, and looking pretty, but not really gaining anything......except a wallet with about $200 less in it! Anybody got sound clips of a '00 SE with an intake and y-pipe only? I just want to make sure if I go that route, I'll be satisfied with the sound.

If ya go here...

http://www.waveperformance.com/mufflerclips/muffler.htm

There's a clip of a Max with Hotshot headers and stock everything else towards the bottom of the page... I would think that headers and a y-pipe are kinda similar in some ways, so it might sound close to what the intake and y-pipe w/ stock cat-back will be.... or so I think...

I have an intake and the cattman y on my 02. intake is loud as hell but sounds badass! Ypipe is quiet, just sounds a little more "throaty"

Thanks JICA33. That's what I was looking for. I can't see the '02 being totally different than a '00......as far as sound goes. I'm just waiting for my PR CAI to come in, and then I was thinking about a X-mas present for me......well, from my GF....for me! :santa:
