Real lexus looking yellow fog's with pictures.
 

I just purchased these Lexus yellow capsules from Hidtech.com and just finished installing them in my foglights. I will have pictures of my 02 max with these posted tommorow because in order to install these you have to open the foglight housing and reseal it when you are done. I just resealed mine so I have to wait till they dry to install on my car. These look outstanding. What (exactly) do you mean you have to open and reseal the foglight housing to install them?

I am guessing they do not fit through the standard access port the lights are installed through.

If that is true, how difficult and time consuming was it to pry the housing apart to get these covers on the fog bulbs.

can you do a write up? I think many people will be interested in doing this
because they look awesome. Definitely the yellowest fogs I have seen...by far.

sorry guys I didn't take pictures while installing these but I can tell you how to do it any ways.

I purchased the 9006 capsules not the H3 because Sean, the guy from Hidtech.com told me the H3 capsules give a dull looking yellow beam and the 9006 are much brighter. You still keep the H3 light bulbs in the housing. The 9006 capsules look like this.http://hidtech.com/images/02154.jpg

1.First when you take out your fog lights you need to take the bulbs and the wires out.
2.Next you will have to bake them on a cookie tray in the oven at 250 degrees for about 20 minutes to melt the sealant that holds the glass to the plastic housing.
3.When you take it out of the oven it will be kinda hot so be carefull, use a small flathead screwdriver and slowly start pulling the glass away from the plastic housing. It may be hard to pull the glass off but be patient and also you might have to heat it up a little more to melt the sealant.
4.When you get the glass off, clean all the sealant out of the housing and glass.
5.Use a phillips head screwdriver and unscrew the bulb shield inside the housing.( one screw).
6.The 3 little legs at the base of the yellow capsule will have to be broken off or cul off.
7.Test fit the capsule inside the housing and test fit the foglight glass cover to see if it closes. Its a real tight fit. When you find the position in which the glass closes, that will be the position that you will glue the capsule to the housing. I used 4 minute clear epoxy to glue the capsule on. Also when you glue the capsule on, use some more epoxy and secure the capsule around the base.
8.You will need new sealant or silicone to reatach the glass cover back on. The yellow capsule might be touching the glass slightly but thats ok.
Put enough sealant in the plastic housing where the glass will sit into. make sure to fill it up to the top. Just whipe off the sealant that willl ooze out of the housing.
9.Let it all dry for a good amount of time and reinstall onto car and you're good to go.

Sorry for not taking pictures while installing, I will have pictures of finished product by tommorow.

did you just use your stock foglight bulbs....i have the piaa ion yellows but its not yellow enough...im thinkin of getting these should i just use the stock bulbs or keep the ion yellow ones in there and put the cover on those?..oh and the 9006 covers work on our h3's?

Very nicely done... seems like a good write-up too.... I have PIAA Ion Crystal Yellows on my car and as much as I like the yellow look, those are good enough for my purposes now and I don't think I need to go as far as you did (I mean that in a good way).... I'm sure many people will appreciate the idea and write-up. :thumbsup:

those cost 30 for a pair. everyone that does this should put them with piaa ion crystal bulbs anyways, even more yellow....someone should try to create a GD or something? id be interested....just a though.

Those look awesome. Nice job on the install.

Putting even a stock 55 Watt H3 bulb into that small capsule will surely cause it to run very hot shortening it's life quite a bit.

The light looks excellent, but bulb life will be short.

That's what I'd be concerned about.

I remember these capsules way back when blue headlights were the in thing (way back in 99).. I had these installed, and let me tell you, if these yellow ones are like the blue ones i had, mine shattered and all the particles scattered and damaged the headlamp housing. You cannot clean it up as the shattered particles scratch and ruin the reflector surface.

I woul dnot use these.

There is no reason they should shatter because its the same way the Acura, Lexus, Infinity yellow fogs are made. With the yellow glass capsules on the inside of the fog light housing. My brother has a Acura TL and I looked inside his housing of the fog light and saw the yellow glass capsule. That is where I got the idea from and then found them on the internet. So thiese should be pretty safe. :doublethu

How ironic is that? Maxima owners wanting Lexus yellow and Lexus owners wanting whiter foglights. :jeffy:

Lol, that is pretty funny lexus wanting white and maxima owners wanting yellow. I think that if some maxima owners want yellow looking fogs but dont want to pry them open they should use the combo of yellow bulb(narva) and yellow film(lamin x) from the pics ive seen with people who have them they are almost the same.

Interesting, because maybe the aftermarket ones are more flimsy? Because my capsules SHATTER from vibrations. But i am not saying this is always going to happen, but when it did, it caused extensive damage.

also it should be noted here for everyone's benefit that the fog light assemblies are different on the 2000-01 from the 2002-3, so the "conversion" will not necessarily be the same....just a thought.

that looks great man.. i took a different approach when i had the original 2000 front bumper on. i mounted aftermarket yellow fog lenses inside the foglight housing. it caused a horrid beam pattern but it sure did look nice.. so for these, did you have to remove the light shield without replacing it? did it cause glare?

yes, light shield has to be removed. Glare is probably low since the bulbs are weak and yellow is easy on oncoming drivers' eyes...

theres a light shield in the 00-01 fogs? Is it a matter of just popping it out? DO i have to heat it up and open it in order to get to the glare guard?

yes, there is a light shield. to get it out (and to install the yellow sheaths) you have to heat up the fog light assembly and take the lens off (just like the way you do the headlights for clearing/DDE's) The light shield is attached by one screw...easy to remove.
