Does anyone know how to get a broken lock lug nut off? It's chipped on two sides and the key won't grip it. I tried using locking pillars but I couldn't grab it well enough. I better call the dealership to ask them about it. Has anyone dealt with this before? Thanks

PS: My rsb is waiting, I can't do jack before I get the luh nut off...this sux

It's real simple.. find a socket (1/2 inch will work best) that fits looks like it will fit over the round cylinder part of the lock nut, but actually doesnt slide over it. ( I think I used 5/16ths) and bang it on with a hammer. Make sure it doesnt bang on too easily.. you want it to bang on REALLY tight.. so it cant be that big.

Then.. try using the 1/2 inch socket, or a breaker bar to screw it off. You'll more than likely ruin the socket.. but I got lucky and was able to use a vice and free the busted lock nut from the socket.. went to sears and got it replaced.

I just called my dealer, he said there are a lot of different ways to do it, drill, weld a lug nut to it, jam a socket over it...I just hope they don't have to f-up my car to take it off...I'm going in tomorrow morning...thanks

Good shops have kits to remove broken lock lug nuts without any drilling.

I've ran in to this before also. My dad bought a used car with the locking lugs. Problem was, no key!

Here is what we did.

1. Get a cold chisel, a big hammer, some WD-40, and a bunch of free time.
2. Make a notch across the centerline of the lugnut with the chisel. Basically we made a big *** slot head screw.
3. Soak the hell out of the lugs with WD-40.
4. Use the chisel and hammer and tap on the slot to get it to rotate.

This actually works I promise, but it does take a long time. Make sure you make the slot pretty deep or you will just take metal off. You don't have to really hit it that hard, just lots and lots of times.

Be careful when banging on socket over the lug. If you hit it off center you will break the stud. Sometimes it is faster and easier to break the stud and replace. My Niche Shoks had tuner lugs in a confined space....thats all we could do to avoid damage to the wheels.

I took my max to my dealer today, they fixed it and gave me new lock lugs for free. They said it wasn't covered under the warantee, but since I had that tire repaired there once, they put it along with that so I didn't owe anything, which was pretty cool of them. If anyone lives in DE, I went to the Porter Nissan on 273. Thanks for you help, now I can put on my RSB!!!!
