I'm Alive!!!
I bought my Max a couple months ago and it has the stock Potenza's on it. I ordered the Falken 512's and am waiting for them to come in. I was hoping winter here in Kansas would hold off until I got my new tires, but of course we got 1 inch of freezing rain and it's supposed to snow 3-5 inches on top of that later today. Driving around on those Potenza's on the roads this morning was probably more intense than skydiving! I can't wait for my new tires and hope that they will do better in snow!

I'm glad your alive....

Just drove for the first time in snow/slush on the 512s. They are better than the RE92s on snow, but just about anything all season on the market today is better than the crapenzas. If only the 512s weren't so squirmy...
|
I have 512, offcourse they are better then craptenzza's but 512's are no heaven in the snow, becarefull anything over 1 inch of snow.
|
I hear you kcwolf, here in Wichita my max is covered in ice!!!! That is why I can't install these...http://memimage.cardomain.net/member.../284505_36.jpg

i read on sears.com that the 512s have something like a 30,000 mile warranty. is that true? because if it is then that is pretty bad.

Yes and no. The break down is 30K for 55 Series and lower. 60 Series and up have 60K miles. As a dissatisfied Falken owner, all I can say is thes tires aren't the best value out there, no matter what Consumer Report says.
|
The majority of tires that are 55 series or lower only come as 30000mi rated.
|
where's a good place to get them and how do i differentiate the series? cuz my treads are at a point where i think it's time to start shopping around.
CCS2k1Max, which tires would you recommend instead? |
The 50 in 225/50R17. 50 Series means the profile of the tire, or the sidewall is 50% of the tread width (112.5 mm on a 225 tire). The 50 Series Falkens feel like 80 or 90 Series Futura tires with more grip. Get them if you want your already less than ideal handling max to feel like a 70s Detroit land yacht.
If you have the money, B'stone Turanza LS-V in OEM size. Off spec size Toyo Proxes 4 (235/45R17) are also a popular choice. |
