When replacing or turning rotors, are new pads needed?
 

My brembo rotors are warped yet again. However, my axxis metal master pads put on at the same time have plenty of life left in them. Can I replace or turn the rotors without having the pads replaced, or must they always be done together.

If your pads aren't too worn, you do not have to change them when you have the rotors turned or replaced. Just remember that when they turn your rotors, they basically shave a small amount of material off them to make them straight again. This will remove mass from the rotors and make them even more likely to warp under hard driving. If you've had them turned before, doing it again will make them feel better for a while, but unless you change your driving style to go easier on the rotors, they will warp again.

After having them turned a couple of times, you should probably consider replacement.

This is the first time I hear/read here that someone warped Brembo rotors. Is it possible under normal hard driving condition, or did this guy raced from Mt. St. Helens all the way down.

your gonna need new pads, trust me, the grooves in the old pads will wear out your new rotors uneven even more, so your new rotors will be gone quicker, i know it sucks to get new pads, but in the long run you will save more time and money.

You could try sanding down the pads to get rid of the glazing.

I drive hard but not out of control. My brembo blanks warped after about 10k mi. I had them resurfaced and now after another 10k mi, they're warped again. Aside from the shimmy in the wheel, I've been thrilled with the stopping power of this combo.

Well, I guess you should get new pads after all, according to the other guys here on the Org. I've had my rotors machined before on other cars. Sometimes I get the pads replaced, and sometimes I don't. For me, it always depended on how worn the pads were. I can see why it would be better to have new pads, but I never thought of it as a requirement until now.

I remember seeing a TSB that applied to the 5th gen. I beleive that in some cases the HUB itself is what is warped and therefore is causing the rotor to warp since it goes flush against the hub. The fix for this was to use an on-car lathe. To answer your question, I have had luck in the past with just rubbing the pads on a course concrete surface in a figure eight pattern. I would not attempt this however if there were large visable grooves in the pad.
