!!!!!!Help with OBD-II code!!!!!!
 

Hello all,

I have a 02 Maxima SE and the SES light is on started couple days ago. Went to Autozone and borrowed the scanner and it showed P0011 "Camshaft Position Actuator A-Bank 1 timing over-advan".

Then called several Nissan service dealers. One from Buean Park (CA) said his Nissan manual does not recognize the code, the code for 02 Maxima started a much later number with P in the front. So basically Nissan's diagnostic tool will show a lot more than just a simple OBD-II scanner from Autozone. He said it can be a camshaft sensor, a thorttle body sensor, or a O2 sensor and maybe just need to adjust and no cost. If the problem is found and is cost (for an example) $200 or $300, basically I just pay the cost to fix and no diagnostic fee at all.

It might be this but just to let you know there was a recall for maximas between 00-03 for camshaft position sensors (NTSB#03124). Check the stickys for the TSB and codes.

dude have you checked the oil level in you r vehicle, I have never seen that code per say but it sounds like this code i pulled on an altima with the vq35 motor and we found that the vehicle was a qt low of oil. we added oil and all was great---this is a suggestion --I am going to have to check the asist tomorrow(im curiuos now.

The motor oil level is fine... no problem there...

I wonder if the drive belts need to be replaced since I didn't replace them yet and it's now 56K miles.

I guess Nissan service dept. has a better dianogistic tool than those conventional ones... it gets more info specifically for Nissan cars??

OK. First thing's first; make sure you have the correct code.

Click on the link below to check the code. At step 5 your light will start flashing to give you the code. Make sure you read the code until it repeats cause you might have a couple stored.

If you want to reset the light continue on to step 6. Otherwise, just turn off the ignition.

When you are sure you have the correct code, do a little more research cause it's probably been discussed on the board a lot.

hl0904 - Hey is your car suffering from a severe power loss? Becuz if thats the case then your camshaft position sensors have gone out.....and u also said BANK1 which is the rear set of cylinders....Well let me tell you...Nissan makes CRAPPY replacement parts....becuz i got the recall done on my car in July 04....and the sensors went out again in November....it sux becuz I had severe power loss and it took like 4-5 seconds to crank my car....and Nissan wouldn't replace the sensor for free either (gay bastards)...so I had to go out and buy my own camshaft sensor and do the labor myself....it's pretty easy to replace but I can't believe Nissan wouldn't replace my ALREADY recalled sensors....it shouldn't even go out in the first place....crappy nissan parts!

I did count them and it is P0011... the first two sets of numbers flashed very quick 10 times, pause in each set, then followed by just one flash, and then one flash, so I think it is 0011...

So how many camshaft sensors are there? And which one do I need to replace? How much is each sensor? And where do I find the instruction to replace it? Thanks a million!!!

Ok, just called Tustin Nissan and there are two camshaft sensors... each one is about $58.64 with two part numbers.

He also said he has seen people went back to the service even though the recall campaign has been done (replaced the original sensors)...

Anywhere I can find out how to change the sensors? Thanks.

Ok, finally take a day off work and went to Buena Park Nissan. Diagnostic the code and it's not the sensors, but the solenoid which controls the camshaft oil pressure (whatever) in bank A that needs to be replaced.

Out of door cost: $250.

Anyone has similiar problems?
