driver's door adjustment
 

Has anyone experienced this small problem? Sometimes my drivers door does not close/catch easily. The door requires you to close it a little harder than the others. It is NOT rubbing on the body and there is some vertical play in the door if you hold it and move it up and down. Is there a way to tighten the door? Thanks for any help from anyone. :eek:

I experience this occasionally as well. It seems to only happen with the drivers door. Feels sort of like closing a car door when you've jacked up one end of the car to pull off a wheel. I think my door hangs a tad bit too low. Doesn't always happen though. No slack in the hinge that I can see. No solution for you... sorry.

There is indeed a solution: the latch that affixes to the door post -the bright metal thing that is essentially a round rod bent 270 degrees and soldered to a flat metal plate that screws into the door post- is adjustable for height and laterally once you loosed the two screws

These screws are very, very tight....you will need a large, well-fitting Phillips screwdriver bit on an impact screwdriver to loosen them.....once they are loose just drop the plate a tad -maybe 1/16th of a inch and re-tightenthe plate....

When I bought my max it had this problem but the dealership fixed it for me.

Illmattic, Do you know exactly what the dealer did to adjust the door?? I am thinking like Galo said above you probably have to adjust the "striker" or catch up or down on the frame of the car. Is your car door better now? Thanks for any input.

You can adjust the striker on the rear jam with the two bolts, you will need a rubber mallet to move it though, and when you're done the door will still hang slightly low when closed, you'll see by looking at the chrome trimline. I decided to do it properly, and shim the door hinges in the front. This is notorious problem with the max. Once they get old they hang, cheap body parts.......

How did you shim the drivers door towards the front hinges? Did you take the door off and add what kind of shims? I am probably going to do this after I adjust the striker on the body of the car. I am going to loosen the two screws and adjust it higher because my door is very close to rubbing on the body of the car. :spike:
