Reliability question

To all you who own a 5th gen (and especially those who have also owned a 4th Gen), I currently have a 99 SE 5 Speed and am thinking about selling it and possibly getting a 2002 or 2003 6 Speed. I just wanted to get your opinions on reliability in general with emphasis on longevity of the tranny as well. I know the 5 Speeds in the 4th Gen are notorious for having bearing failure among org members, but sometimes I think it gets blown out of proportion because there are probably tons of owners who never had a problem or a post. Anyway, your opinions are very much appreciated in advance. Thanks.

I'm a tech at Executive Nissan in CT and as far as reliability goes, I can't recall there ever being a 6-speed in the shop due to failure.

Back to the question at hand. I have not heard much about the 6-speed trannies being a problem, but in general and overall I think compared to Toyota, or at least MY experiences, the 02-03 Maxima is GOT ITS PROBLEMS! I have had my 03 Max for about 2 months with 18k miles and it has been in the shop more days than I have DROVE it! If this continues I will be selling this bi**ch soon. I had a Toyota Solara and never had a problem the 4 years I owned it, but then again I have had my 300ZXTT for almost 7 years without a major problem too, so you be the judge?

105K miles on my 01 5spd, I had my tranny repleaced at 103K miles under warranty. I wanted a new one, old one was just fine. I kept my old tranny. I have some issues with mine like rattles from the interior when its cold outside- thats bout it.

Ok. I have cleaned up this thread and all the annoying posts. The topic will remain open, but the next person to start an attack is outta here.... permanently.
