max's with 45% tint

Preferably sterling mist but if you have a max with 46% tint on it please post your pix. Im debating weather or not to get 35 or 45 b/c of legal reasons here in NJ. It would also be helpful if you had a light interior. But any max with 45% will do. Thanks

99 SE-L Mar 21, 2005 07:26 PM

30 is useless but 45 would be a big waste of money...IMHO

bigsherv Mar 21, 2005 07:28 PM

i have 35 up front and 20 everywhere else. In texas we have to have 35 in the front. 45 is pretty clear to be gegin with. I think 45 would be a waste.

Max20SE00 Mar 21, 2005 07:31 PM

yes 45 would be a waste. It wouldnt even look tinted.

PaulyPoTz Mar 21, 2005 07:32 PM

bro just take pics of ur car with plate and registration befor u put on ur tints and if u get a ticket mail in the pics and the ticket is dismissed...at least that how it is in ny...ohh and make sure u use a camera that doesnt print the dates on the photos like a polaroid camera

steven88 Mar 21, 2005 07:33 PM

Do you really want to go that light? 45% is really light and is not worth tinting...you want to get tint to help keep the car cool? or just for looks? i'm sure your leaning towards the former becuz you just mentioned that you wanted to keep things legal....so i don't think yer goin for looks....

if u want to get tint to keep your interior cool on hot sunny days...then tinting at 45% is worthless and waste of money....for comparison...i use to have 35% fronts and 25% rears....and that barely kept my interior cool on hot sunny days....then I went to 5% all around....the improvement wasn't night&day...but you can tell a difference when u get in the car....i have black leather btw....

I'd say tint them at LEAST 35%.....anything above that is pretty much worthless....heck even 35% is worthless to me becuz I use to have them...no flaming plz becuz this is from personal experience...so I ain't no n00b

SEmy2K2go Mar 21, 2005 07:33 PM

I have 38% in the front and 30% in the rear. Check my site for pics.

frankd121 Mar 21, 2005 07:35 PM

I hate nj tinting laws

Lontar1 Mar 21, 2005 07:38 PM

35% all the way around.....but the front..

Max20SE00 Mar 21, 2005 07:40 PM

yes go with at least a 35%

that 5% looks really good on your max, makes me wish i got that instead of 20%

y2KAOSMax Mar 21, 2005 08:08 PM

Mine is 45%... Hmmm. Looks pretty tinted to me despite popular belief. I never get harrased by police either. It's what I wanted so it's what I have. If you want 45% go for it. It's your car.

NJ Law says ANY tint on the windshield and front sides is illegal. It also says that ANY tint on the rear sides and rear window is legal. (This excludes reflective tint, which is illegal.) So when I get tint this summer, I figure I might as well just do like 20% all around, and hope for the best. It seems (knock on wood) that the ratio of tint fines to those for speeding, white turn-signals, etc. is very low.

lex3015 Mar 21, 2005 08:15 PM

I got 35% all the way around on mine, it's just right if you arent looking to go too dark but want to tint. otherwise it'd be a waste of money and not going to give the real "tinted out" look.

99 SE-L Mar 21, 2005 08:23 PM

I just got 15% all the way around on my Sunlit sand looks amazing by the far the nicest color ive seen with tint....

XGaSpAcHo Mar 21, 2005 09:28 PM

Take a pic of your car before you put any tint on it. Then you can go as low as 5 % and when you go to court bring a picture of your car before the tint and tell the judge you got it changed back. Case dismissed.

I have 50% in front, 35% back and rear. 50% helps...I'd love 35%/20% fr/rear but my state won't pass a car for inspection with front tint and cops would pull me over if I had it any darker.

50%, while not great, is better than nothing. I'd do it again.

when I was in for my speeding ticket a kid told the judge "I put my front plate on, can you dismiss the ticket?" and the cop told the bailiff "go outside and check it."

The kid looked like he was going to shi!t.

Moral? You do NOT want to lie to a judge.

vsamoylov Mar 22, 2005 02:41 PM

both of them dont work for me.

ZIPPIN Mar 22, 2005 02:50 PM

did i say that it would be too light and a waste of $$

vsamoylov Mar 22, 2005 02:54 PM

light tints are good for the front windshield

Y2KMaxGXE-R Mar 22, 2005 03:01 PM

check out my cardomain page (see my profile). My car is tinted with 40% film, which comes out to be right before the Maryland legal limit of 35% after applied over OEM glass. I would not recommend 45%, mere waste of money.

those look dark due to it being over cast and the angle of pics. at certain angles you can't even see inside mine. even though they are 20%, which is legal here.

and not to flame, but you need to drop that mutha

Sizzo718 Mar 22, 2005 03:11 PM

I have 20% all around, 55% for the window shield. Check out my (new) sig :grinno:

po-po has stopped me twice for tints and issued tickets both times. they however ticketed me for having one window tinted as oppose to ticketing me for each window. Whew! i doubt either officer noticed my tinted winshield since one officer was wearing their shades and another stopped me at night when it's less noticable.

Just so you guys know...your max comes with an 8% OEM tint already on the glass. If in doubt take any sharp object and scratch the inside of your glass at some point where it is not noticeable. Now I did not say to get all Freddy Kruger on your glass...a little nick is fine, and only if you are in doubt. Anyway, the point is that any aftermarket tint would be applied on a glass with 92% visibility. Therefore, to remain legal in say MD at 35% the minimum tint to apply would be 40%. This works out (40% of 92%) to 36.8%. The upshot is that any grade tint is multiplied by 92 to get the true grade. This is only for those of you who want to remain legal. All others, including myself, may ignore this geekified rambling and skip to the next post in line.
