I saw the change in your signature this afternoon...I guess it might have changed earlier, but just noticed it. Nice pictures.

What's the ride quality compared to your previous setup?

Woohoo! Looking pretty fly there! :D

The ride isn't totally slammed yet. I believe I still can go down about 1.0-1.5" but I'll have no suspension travel at all. To adjust the height, all I have to do is raise the car up with a jack, loosen the clamp, and twist the metal thing. Too too hard to do.

You're welcome to take a drive if you like... only if I'm in the car and if you bring me a mod. ;)

$399 plus tax and shipping.

walsh03 May 8, 2001 08:05 AM

happy, happy, joy, joy!

Dude that looks great. For those of us that can't do that right now, its nice to know we can live through you vicariously.

Dustyroads May 8, 2001 08:30 AM

Unbelievable!! Kev that is so sweet!! So let me get this straight...it's $399 for the coil-overs plus the price of the Koni's? Just checking. Can you say slammed!! Oh one more question...how is the camber, do you need camber plates?? Just checking again.

Sweet!!! :D

Thanks! Not sure you would want to do that. ;)

Sweet!!! :D

$399 plus $440 for the Koni's It's not slammed yet, but I wouldn't feel comfortable dropping it further while driving on Cali roads. My camber is negative, as expected, but I will be buying camber adjusting devices (probably the camber plates over the camber bolts) soon enough to fix that problem. Thanks for the compliment. :)

punkdork May 8, 2001 09:06 AM

This is all well and good but... does it slice and dice? :D

AznWontonboy May 8, 2001 09:24 AM

hows the ride with konis and coilovers???

maxedout1 May 8, 2001 09:40 AM

What kind of coil-overs are they?

Also now that I have the Stillen intake in the car, and now I am hearing a weird noise when i put the car into first or switch into second. What should I check?

RussMaxManiac May 8, 2001 09:56 AM

Oh my god, droooolll!!! Kev that is sweet dude!! The shocks for the 4th gen fit perfectly?! Dane!

It slices, dices, cooks, and cleans. Body roll is little to nill.

VERY bumpy and stiff. Not recommended to people with weak kidneys. Yesterday the ride was comparable to the Eibach/Tokico setup I had, but I lowered the front a bit more and this morning was a stiff ride to work.

Ground Control coilovers.

Start a new thread with your question so it'll draw more attention. Explain the weird noise in your thread also.

Thanks Russ. Time to change your suspension too? ;)

IceY2K1 May 8, 2001 11:45 AM

Sweeeeeet!!!

Please post a "How To" in the sticky section on your setup and where to get the parts? In those pics is it possible to drive that low without bottoming out? I don't think I want it that low, but just a little more gap above the tire. The adjustability is the best part for me.

For camber plates, you might talk to Cattman, since his billet plates add about an 1" of travel by mounting the strut end on top of the strut tower(vs. underneath). His 4th gen is slammed and he says it doesn't bottom out. I emailed him if he would sell them without his coilover setup, but I haven't got a response.

P.S: In the pics your tint looks a little purplish. Is that what you wanted? Or did it just fade?

Y2KevSE May 8, 2001 12:16 PM

The GC/Koni install is basically the same as the Koni install from http://www.performanceix.com Parts can be bought from http://www.ground-control.com (GC's) and http://www.shox.com (Koni's). I'll post something up there when I get a chance.

I also thought I would bottom out with that little suspension travel, but so far I haven't yet. I believe the 500 lbs. spring rate in front is helping out, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the info on the billet camber plates. I'll look into that.

Ouch, my tint doesn't look close to that. I don't know what happened...... that looks nasty.

AznWontonboy May 8, 2001 04:28 PM

so kev, wut shocks would be recommended for the best ride with coil overs??

Nothing but Koni's. I would not recommend Tokico's with coilovers.

punkdork May 8, 2001 05:19 PM

One ? I forgot about. How is the ride compared to eibachs with stockers/tokicos? Do the koni's handle the rebound better?

Yesterday, it wasn't that much worse than the Eibach/Tokico, but since I lowered it more, it got worse. I'd say they are about 2 times as bad as Eibachs/stockers if you can imagine. :D

Yup, the Koni's definitely handle the rebound better. I don't want to imagine what foozed feels in his 575 lbs. spring rate on Tokico's.

Thoughts about Koni's with Eibachs or H&R? Is the Koni a better strut than Tokico or just better with coil overs?

I can't tell you how much better they'll compare with springs/Toks because I haven't experienced it, but my guess would be that it will be a better setup.

I carried Jane and Turbo95Max in my car over bumps, curves, turns, and hills. Not a problem..... but I'm hesitant to put 4+ people in the car.

I would think twice before carrying a girl (that's not into performance cars) in a ride w/coilovers (with my spring settings).

 No need to be jealous. Since you know 4th gen GC's and Koni's will fit a 5th gen, why don't you buy them? Change your future mods list. Hehehehehe....

Hey, kev did you say Ground Control spring kit from 4th gen will fit on 5th gen max?

because, weapon-R has coil-over kit for 95-99 maximas, if that's the case, it should fit on 5th gen max, rite???
Why didn't you go for Weapon-R since it has helper spring, wouldn't that improve the ride quality better than GC's?

thanks
Tim

Yeah, the helper spring would be nice, but would the Weapon R coilovers really work? :gotme: I don't want to take that chance but you can try it out and update us. :D
