Ok... We bought my wife's '00 Max SE back in January. Its been perfect!! Absolutely trouble free. Been running Mobil 1 Synthetic since 300 miles and its been changed about every 3500-4000 miles (its driven a lot!). We're just about to turn 15k miles (14,868 or so right now). Ok, scary part. We went to go out to get something to eat last night. Well my wife had moved the Max earlier that day with no problems, but when I started it, it was LOUDLY KNOCKING as it started up... I mean obnoxiously... = ( It only last like 5 seconds, but it was enough to scare me. I checked everything on the car (oil, coolant, etc) and its all normal, and the car run fine after that and started perfect this morning, but I'm a little worried. Anyone have any ideas? I'm probably going to take it to Nissan and have them look at it, but I'm not sure. Does Nissan charge you to look at a vehicle? I know they charge to look at vehicles no longer under warranty and to do service changes and stuff, but I've never owned a NEW warranted vehicle. What are my options? Also, since we're about to hit 15k miles, what service needs to be done? So far the only two things I've done was change the oil every 3500-4000 miles, and I rotated the tires at the second oil change (about 7500 miles). What needs to be done? I read the manual and it stated tire balance and rotation, fuel injector service, oil change, fluid check, belt and brake inspection etc... but what REALLY needs to be done by Nissan? Is the injector service really necessesary and is it anything more than them putting an injector cleaner in the car for $78?? Thanks in advance for any answer/suggestions/comments!

that noise

we talked about this last week. we've all had it (most of us 2k-er and some 4th geners too). Chances are you moved the car or only had it started for < 2mins, then let it sit for a day or two.

Dude I do not know about the knocking, but I know if mine did that I'd take it in right away. There should be no charge to check on what would be a warranty issue. Just have them check it while they're doing the 15k "service".

yup.. I agree

take it in.. but dont be alarmed *if* they dont find anything. there is something up with just starting the car for a few seconds, then leaving it for a day or two. heck, I'd like to know what the deal is. I *hate* that noise.

Btw, you dont count AC, Nissan prolly spent the extra .15 cents so the i30 wont do that :) j/k

knock

I had posted last week on this...my 95 Maxima would do it whenever I only moved it a few feet and didn't drive it until the next day. I had read it's because of the plugs sitting in excessive fuel from sitting after the start and not driving it more that a few seconds.

Does a Nissan mechanic monitor this board? Would be great to get a professional's opinion on this since I have been wondering exactly what it is for 5 years!!

( I now have a 2000 I30 and have not had the problem yet)
