Problem unpluging air bags or not?
Hey guys I have question: I have to remove driver seat from the car (upholstery shop will be fixing tear on the leather seat) and that means that I have to unplug the air bags. After putting everything back together will the “check the air bags” light be on or blinking after that? I know that that’s a case if you unplug air bag connection behind the glove box. Please let me know what to do to avoid any surprises.

This is basically what the 01 I30 FSM says:
REMOVAL -Before servicing SRS, turn the ignition switch OFF, disconnect both battery cables and wait at least 3 minutes. -Always work from the rear of the air bag module. 1. Remove seat back board. -When using a clip removal tool to remove the seat back board, take care not to damage the harness for air bag. 2. Disconnect side air bag module connector by sliding tab. 3. Pull up the seat back trim. 4. Remove the nuts securing the inner cloth with seat back frame. Then pull up the inner cloth. 5. Remove the seat back trim. 6. Remove the torx nuts coated with bonding agent from the side air bag module. 7. Remove side air bag connector. Side air bag module can then be removed. INSTALLATION 1. Install side air bag module on seat back frame with new torx nuts coated with bonding agent. 2. Install side air bag connector. 3. Install the seat back trim. 4. Secure the inner cloth which covers the side air bag module with nuts. 5. Connect side air bag module connector. 6. Install seat back board with new clips. 7. Connect both battery cables. 8. Manual says check airbag operation with CONSULT II or use airbag light. If airbag light comes on take it to a dealership cause something is not right CAUTION: -Always place the air bag module standing with the stud bolt side setting bottom. -Do not attempt to disassemble air bag module. -The torx nuts are coated with bonding agent. Do not use old nuts after removal; replace with new coated nuts. -Do not insert any foreign objects (screwdriver, etc.) into air bag module connector. -Replace air bag module if it has been dropped or sustained an impact. -Do not expose the air bag module to temperatures exceeding 90°C (194°F). -Do not allow oil, grease or water to come in contact with the air bag module. -After air bag inflates, all parts of front seat back (including front seat back frame) should be replaced. |
Yikes, that's a lot of process how to handle the airbag, seem very lenghty steps to prevent any mistakes.

Thanks skeetch for your intructions (a lot of them) just one more question: is I unplag the battery my power seat won't work so how it win come of and on without power. And they won't take the air bag of - they will be fixing the leather only on the cushion and the air bags are in the seat back.
