I'd like to fill in my wheel well gap and have a slightly smoother ride and since I can't lower because winter would not be pleasant driving around I might as well fill the gap a little and get a smoother ride.
The tire I was looking at is the firestone firehawk tour LH. has anyone used these? they're rated at 500 wear and I need a 17 at the moment that will last and not wearout after season and a half of use. from miata.net my speedo won't be too much off. speedo says 30mph I'm actually going 31 55 I'm going 57 80 I'm going 83 so basically my speedo will be 3.5% too slow you 5th gens with the 50 tires on...do you ever feel rubbing against your suspension or wheelwell? Kev especially now? :) Input please... (^_^) |
:laugh: Believe it or not, I lowered it some more yesterday and took a test drive around the area. I maxed out the steering wheel quite a few times and still no rubbing at all. The day I compared my car with mingo's car, I had approximately a 2 inch drop compared to his car... since then, I've lowered the car 2 more times.
So, with the 235/50 tires and stock ride height, I still don't think you'll rub. |
Very cool...how bout maxed out steering over bumps and such?
I didn't think I would have a prob with the slighty bigger profile on my stock ride height. hopefully its works out...I'll be ordering very soon... Questions:
1. What tires were those so I can look up the actual tire width on the web. Even though it says 245 it might be a bit wider or narrower than other tires in the same 245 catagory. 2. where was it rubbing? suspension or inside wheel well? 3. were you lowered back then? how much? 4. when would it rub? only on extreme bumps in the road or during extreme cornering? 5. were this tires mounted on your momos at the time? thanks Originally posted by Russ2kSE 235x50 should not rub, but 245x45 will. 1) BF Goodrich Comp TA ZR tires, in 245x45zr17s Mounted on 17x8 Momo Arrows 35mm offset
2) Rubbing was inside of wheel well on engine firewall side. And a little rubbing on the paint on the front bumper lower corner (only from when I auto-x with them that one time, must have flexed the suspension alot. 3) No stock height. 4) Rubbing only occured when turning the wheel all the way one direction.
