springs and 20's?

This isn't for me so don't flame. It's just a post because what my friend is doing I'm not sure will work. He's got 20's on his '00 se which i dont like anyways but to each his own. Today i swung by my local aftermarket spot to find him dropping it on Eibach springs which i believe give it about 2 in the front and an inch and a half rear of drop. I told him it wasnt gonna work and its gonna rub. I just wanna see if anyone has a similar set up or if I'm right because he's really funny when things don't go the way he pays for them to go. And he has stock struts so its just the drop. Thanx, Lex.

NisMoN00B May 3, 2005 03:25 PM

the rubbing will all depend on the tire size and wheel offset. if he's dropping it on stock struts, he'll be limping his way to the shop pretty quick anyways. so be a good friend and tell him to buy some illuminas.

R3D666SK!N May 3, 2005 03:44 PM

The eibach's only drop it 1.3 in front and 1.0 in rear. I've got 20's and I'm about to go with Tein H-techs which give a 1.6 front and 1.0 rear. I talked to a guy who has 20's and is running progress springs which is 1.7 front and 1.5 rear and he doesn't rub.

I hate it too, but I just got the rims 5 days ago. Gimme a minute, okay! :run: I'm tryin to hurry! I should hopefully have it done by the end of the week or begginning of next week. I'll post pics and update my page.

Teufelhunden May 3, 2005 06:51 PM

yeah i hear ya, thats why i usually get the drop first then the rims to avoid that dreaded 4x4 look.
your car is sitting so high off the ground esp with those 20's
not big fan of 20" blings though.. (i had to say it)
but everyone has different tastes..

R3D666SK!N May 4, 2005 04:25 AM

I know a lot of orgers aren't but that's good for me cuz that means my max is more original. I didn't want to drop first, cuz I wasn't sure how low I could go. Unfortunately, there's another max that looks like mine with 20's. Here's the link - http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...page_id=342336 Once I saw his ride I knew I had to get 20's. I really think 18's are too small for 5th gens, but it kind of depends on the style too. I had 18's on my 4th gen and they looked pretty big, but the rim had a lot of surface area.

+1 especially if you have a lip on the wheels.

rob van dam May 4, 2005 01:08 PM

Im SLAMMED with JIC's on 20's. Im tucking a half an inch all the way around plus i dont have much rubbing at all. I hope this helps.

^^^NICE 20's look dope but i think rubbing would freak me out...

bigsherv May 4, 2005 01:33 PM

how often do you have to buy tires? Do you drive the car often?

rob van dam May 4, 2005 03:45 PM

I have JIC's so the alignment is PERFECT! Tires wear fine. I have toyo 245/35 fz4's...the ride is great. In my opinions, to really have the best possible look and ride i wouldnt lower on 20's if you dont have JIC's. Theres a reason why JIC's cost over $1000. Theyre the best! The tire hits the top of the front fenders when i go over these HUGE bumps (Im talking like HUGE ditches etc). This doesnt happen to often anyway. That wouldnt happen if i wasnt tucked though...I drive the car enough but its mostly a show car.

Teufelhunden May 4, 2005 05:37 PM

rob, i think you have the cleanest 20s ive seen on a max. i seriously hate those ugly bulky chrome 20's. just doesnt flow with the clean lines of a maxima. i still think 20s a little too big for maixmas but yours actually is lookin kinda tite!!

If you look at rob's page and see his max with 18's, it just doesn't look right. 5th gens need at least 19's or 20's, preferably 20's though, IMO.

icelandmaxima May 4, 2005 10:43 PM

Rob van dam have you had any issues with your wheels as far as bent/damaged . It does look nice but IMO you need a little more cushining cause on my last car i had 35 series tires and bent two rims. but i suppose it comes down to the wheel quality and road quality. Also if you dont drive it that much.

xtantmaxima May 4, 2005 11:45 PM

The bodykit makes this picture as nice as it is.

rob van dam May 5, 2005 08:47 AM

thanks for the compliments. I havent had any problem at all with the wheels. I got them back in january and the 245/35 toys ride great! I mean its so smooth suprisningly....I wanted to get bigger then my 18's and i said why not go 20's. The chrome look ians tmy thing, so i found these new wheels from 5 zigen that just came out and decided on them. got a lil company support from them as well..

DaBoxSE May 5, 2005 09:36 AM

I like those 20s a lot!! Not often do you see 20s that arent chring!!! (thats Chrome Bling)

icelandmaxima May 5, 2005 01:41 PM

Axis Milano's are now offered in 20 inch. I'd be curious to see those on a max in that size with coilovers.

RVD - have you rolled your fenders?

nv max May 5, 2005 02:04 PM

I have no rubbing with my 20s and I didn't have to roll my fenders

icelandmaxima May 5, 2005 02:13 PM

I was wondering based on the 245's he is running. What size tires do you run?
You also dont appear to be tucking much its pretty flush. His setup looks like he is tuckin more tire.

icelandmaxima May 5, 2005 02:15 PM

actually upon further review it looks about the same.

TenetMusic May 5, 2005 02:25 PM

i wanna get some new shoes i would like to go big like 20's and can afford it but i am wondering if it would be worth it for a daily driver...

sucks for some reason my max has 4th gen 16's on it...way to buy used!

Check out victoriatire.com. I was surprised at how inexpensive 20's have become. Of course there's also ebay. I just got my 20's last week and I love 'em. They feel great, better handling. I'm gettin' my springs within the next week, hopefully! Definately works for daily driving! :D

I rolled the front some. I had 5 zigen shave down the wheel from a 38 offset to a 42 offset. That allowed me to be able to tuck the rear without having to roll.

Teufelhunden May 5, 2005 06:12 PM

i dont think i can afford 20's but those woulndt last a day here in jersey. too many damn potholes, i seriously hate it. some road are so bad it almost feels like your off roading. i mean there is this one road i drive thru, and theres a train track which is full of bumps, huge dips that you have to slow down or your car will take a beating, then theres one part, where its all bumps, you cant even go around it. i know its off topic, but getting 20" on cars over here would be pointless.
did i mention that i hate jersey roads?
im seriously thinknin about moving...

TenetMusic May 5, 2005 07:34 PM

that is one beautiful max!!!

oxygen May 5, 2005 09:01 PM

rob van dam May 6, 2005 07:27 AM

rob van dam May 7, 2005 06:27 PM

Iv'e spent enough on the car already!...This yr will be my last yr showing ("maybe"). I am required by 5 Zigen to be in 4 more shows this yr.
