PIAA's and Xenon bulbs melting wires?

I have a 2000 max with stock headlights and bulbs. I actually trust my mechanic at the dealership and he told me (don't quote me on this) that *most* aftermarket bulbs use more volts/watts or whatever (forgive my ignorance) than OEM bulbs and could melt the wiring system.

Has anyone with aftermarket bulbs of any kind had a problem like this?

My apologies if there is any kind of thread on this already, please post a link.

As long as the bulb is stock wattage, absolutely NOTHING will happen -- especially with real Xenon/HID lights.

i have had no problem with my piaa foglights meltimg any wires for about 5 months now

Where can I find the OEM wattages .. I searched on the .org and google but could only find wattages for 6th gens

EDIT: does this have anything to do with wattage? Again, please forgive my ignorance. I've never had to deal with headlights before and just want brighter lights without risking burning out my wiring. :gotme:

No that is the color temp...

I have Piaa GT-X headlights in my car and have for about two years, they are great. I have the H4's in my headlights, just look in your owners manual for the headlight wattage.

Here, go to THIS

website and buy the Piaa GT-X headlights, they are factory wattage and look great.

Simple enough

The only problem is that one ends up with this afterwards http://www.thesite.org/content/2/c4/...mptywallet.jpg

I used to have PIAA fog lights that were 55w and they worked great. As long as you are not going over that wattage you should be fine. I tried 85w bulbs and they fried the sh!t out of my wires.

High Beam Bulb size

Hey guys, newbie to board but been driving Maximas for years. Just went from a hard-working but done 1990 to a 2002 beauty. Same car as yours Bugbite, but your's is looking sweeter -- where did you get the side mirror lighting?

I've checked in owner's manual and on the FAQ's before asking this -- FYI all the bulb sizing links are broken. Is the halogen bright bulb a 9005?

Thanks and looking forward to learning about my new car.

Yup they are 9005.

Had mine for six months, and never had a problem. Although mine are suppose to be the top-of-the-line PIAA bulbs, don't know if that makes a difference. Plus with that extra black/sheild thing it should cut down on the heat frying the wires, the hareness is another story.....

i've melted my harnest before..
it was a ***** to take out the socket...

Yup they are 9005.
Thanks maka, appreciate it. Didn't get an email notification of the response -- does this board do that? Or maybe just for supporting members?

I'll be going clears, and silverstar fog bulbs (H3, right?), then consider any next moves. Got a couple of door dings to have taken care of.
