Have a read through this from Cattman...
"we're just now getting out a cat-back exhaust for the 95-99 and would like to do a follow-up on the gen5. The design, like the gen4 system, will be the only one available that is tuned to take advantage of the Y-pipe's
unique deep tonal qualities. As sweet as a GReddy sounds with a stock Y-pipe, performance Y-pipes make it sound harsh and that's true to varying extents with every other exhaust out there. They leave out or use undersize resonators, then the sound is harsh or has to be suppressed with an overly restrictive, large muffler. The Stillen piece is way off the mark, lacking any kind of a mid-pipe resonator, a key and prominent component of the Cattman cat-back.
You may be disappointed to know that I'll be surprised if this is a lower cost alternative to the Stillen piece (I don't know the price of the midpipe/muffler combination you refer to). We always offer a reasonable price but tend to focus more on the best materials, effective design and
durable fabrication methods. Ours will be 100% T-304 stainless (except the CNC-machined mild steel flanges, which shouldn't be s/s), TIG-welded, with the entire system designed for the Maxima and fabricated from the basic
materials rather than assembled from generic subcomponents. I would expect the price to be somewhere between $500-600, and it will probably be available in "sport" (louder) and "touring" (quieter) versions.
If you were within driving distance of Phoenix I could sure help you out because we'd act right away if we had a car to prototype on, but that's unlikely, so stay in touch with me or check my website for progress on the catback issue.
In terms of performance increase, you shouldn't expect a lot from changing exhaust systems, the stock ones may look like it, but they aren't that bad. I wouldn't expect more than about 6-7 hp to be gained from a cat-back exhaust. At best, and very likely about 4.
Might as well mention that you'll get far more benefit adding a Cattman Performance Y-pipe (especially following the addition of an intake) than you will an exhaust system, its a much tighter bottleneck to the exhaust flow.

Also available is CarSound's high-flow catalytic converter. Warpspeed Performance has it for only $110, versus around $179 for the Random Technology unit. Nissan switched to a higher flowing cat sometime in 1999, so gains are going to be marginal. But if you want an all 2 1/2" exhaust, go for it.

Its lighter than stock and stainless it seems a bit quicker at higher rpms.

well i was told that the full exhaust with muffler would go for over $1k since it is full 304 stainless...i got mine for cost and they haven't measured it yet...i keep emailing brian and he said they are too busy to measure it this friday, but we might be able to work something out for next week...next time i meet up with phil, i'll post some sound clips of the exhaust
