Looks like replacing only one sensor was the fix. Same here, although my gas mileage still sucks. I will most likely be replacing the fuel filter this weekend to see if that might help. |
I had the cel checked at Auto Zone and my codes were P171, 173 & 174...it is running to lean. My avg mpg is about the same. I was thinking this was causing my performance problem because the car was revving up to 3 and 4 rpm but the car was not moving hardly at all....I could've gotten creamed getting on the freeway Satur. and I could not even pass a car doing 40mpg so I took it directly to the dealership this morning...the service writer just called back with the bad news..I need a new air flow mass meter, so I'm going to have to spend big bucks to get Maxie out of the shop ...boo hoo....

Please do not get your MAF replaced at the dealer! You are throwing away a lot of money. Just call up DaveB and have him send you a 2k1 MAF (stronger than all other 5th gen MAFs) and then install it yourself. You will save hundreds of dollars doing it this way.

Just another update. I just put over 1,000 miles on my car this weekend and no CEL.

... I know this thread is old BUT...I have had the light come on persistently as well, it came on for a few days, then went back off, now it's on again. Not sure the exact code but it did concern getting an o2 sensor, the AUTOZONE tech asked me if I was running an aftermarker high flow cat, which I am, he said then more than likely the o2 sensor is just fine b/c they usually affect the original ECU variations on air intake/outake... BTW I am getting around 425 miles to a tank (before the light, only 360ish) and about half of those are city, and half, highway... I am just wondering since my mileage is so high and I am in TN where they do not do inspections should I go ahead and get the sensors because the SES light is very bothersome. And DaveB did say there is no necessary need for an ECU update, which would save a couple hundred dollars
