who's got a haynes or chilton manual?

i'm looking for the removal/installation of the intake manifold. i remember how it goes back together, but i want reasurance. none of the parts stores around here have the right one, they only show the 4rth gen style intake and i need the 2000 style intake. any help would be great. thanks.

You could get the Nissan Factory Service Manual for your Maxima. I don't know if the 2000/2001 guys can even get a Haynes or Chilton manual yet. I know I've had trouble finding one for the 2002/2003.

Anyway, the FSM is free if you just register at www.phatg20.net. Sign up and then click on the "FSM's (Other Cars) & Programs & User Uploads" link on the navigation menu.

I have a Haynes manual that covers 1993 to 2001 Maximas. Don't be so bloody cheap. Go out and buy one, they cost peanuts. Alternatively, go to the public library with some change and photocopy what you need.

I have a Haynes manual that on the front cover says '93-'01 but it really should only say up to '99... All the pictures and directions cover 99% 4th generation.

I have the haynes and it is only a "guide" at best, it shows nothing from a 2000+ it does not show anything for the 2000 composite variable intake.

I just removed mine and BECAREFUL with the plenum bolts, the lower intake will strip easily, I had to have my car towed to have the lower intake fixed because two of the holes stripped. No, I did not overtighten them either, it was the first time they had come out and the bolts took the threads right with them when they came out. If they do strip, helicoils wil fix them so dont worry, it is just a PIA.

It is fairly easy to remove, just time consuming. take all the hoses off, if you want label them. then you need to remove the thottle body, some say you dont, however I found it easier just to remove it, it is only four bolts. the biggest PIA are the two bolts BEHIND the intake, there is NO room between the intake and the firewall, you can barely see them I had to climb on top of my engine with a flash light to see them.

You're right. I have a 4th Gen and really didn't notice. They shouldn't include up to 2001 on the cover of the Haynes manual, but cut it off at 1999.

I see nothing in xlcrew's original post referring to him not wanting to buy the manual because of financial reasons. All I see is that he could not buy one because no merchants carry them in his area.

Since we've established that Haynes/Chilton "manuals" are rough guides for the 00 and 01 Maxima, and since we've established that they're not always easy to find at all local stores...

You can purchse an ESM (Electronic Service Manual) on CD-Rom for about$10 on eBay...it's the same thing they use at the dealership and a fantastic reference.

But on the the other hand, I DON'T recommend taking the manifold apart...I have heard nothing but horror stories from those whom did.

Why???

As long as you pay attention you are fine. The biggest problem are the two front center plenum bolts, they seem to strip REALLY easy for some reason (I was not the first, second, or third to have the same problem).

The ESM is just the FSM in electronic (pdf) format. It's the same manual we've been talking about for several posts now.
