Well, you COULD replace them with LEDs for about $1.00...

MaximaPolak Sep 27, 2005 02:42 PM

You can get like 50 LEDs on Ebay for 9-12 dollars.

Hey, found this thread via search-

I have a 2000 SE w/ auto climate control and one of the bulbs burned out illuminating the buttons. Are these bulbs easy to get to, and are they a common bulb type (ie something I could find at Autozone?)

I'm wondering the exact same thing. I just installed a new CD player and when i reinstalled the climate controls some of the LED's had burned out.

OK, I'm late to this thread, but this happened to me last year on my 2001 Maxima. Bulbs quit making a connection (they weren't actually burnt out) with the board one at a time. I called Calsonic (maker of our climate control)-they have no clue how to provide replacement bulbs and were of no help.

Went to dealer. Dealer wants to replace whole unit to a tune of $480. They don't have replacement bulbs, either, and car is out of warranty, so I'm SOL.

What I did: I bought three of the LED type train bulbs from Radio Shack at about $1.50 each. The stock LEDS are screw-in type and will unscrew leaving a hole to work with. The Radio Shack bulbs will fit in this hole and can be attached to the computer board inside the unit. Then, you have to wire these lights to either a lights-on power source in the car- I used the switched wire in the radio, since it's close by.

When you buy the bulbs, make sure you get the ones with a resistor built in. I chose the green ones just to be different. It works great, but does take a little work to pull the radio/climate unit, separate the climate control, and then break it down to get to the board inside.

the same thing happened to my maxima after i got my CD player installed

finally after a month or two it pissed me off so i took the whole controls out, opened them up and got new bulbs from Nissan - like $6(CDN) a bulb

worked fine for a few weeks, think the bass from the stereo knocks the bulbs loose

took it all apart again and this time crazy glued the bulbs in - works fine now

This post makes me proud...not all n00bs are idiots.

The bayonet-style bulb SUCKS, and I have no idea why nissan made them this way. DIY leds ftw.

all that said, LEDs do require some know-how and some customization.

While I realize that $5 a bulb is way steep, it's only $15 altogether to fix this problem with no hassle (3 bulbs).....I mean, it's not like you're gonna go broke doing it.

I'm getting a kick out of how some of you won't pay $5 each for the climate control bulbs, but will pay $50 for PIAA "hyper white" fog light bulbs or something.....

And no, you can't buy those same bulbs anywhere - trust me, I looked (though my dealer only charged me $2.20 for them, but had to order them).

oh, by the way....
cellulite thighs on the girl on the right gets a :thumbsdow

She just needs a little special cream to rub on those thighs. What a coincidence I happen to produce just such a cream. Maybe I can help her out.
