How to install 1970's style steering wheel

Ok so my dad gave me a racing steering wheel from the 1970's-1980's (It's the kind that were put on muscle cars). He saved it from his first car - a Celica.

I was just wondering how to remove the stock steering wheel from a 2000 SE and how to install the racing wheel.

The main thing I want to know though, is if I need a hub. I don't mind drilling holes into the racing wheel, so is it possible to install it without a hub?

Thanks org!

You will probably need a hub... but i wouldnt recommend changing it. You will lose your air bag. Plus it is illegal to remove a safety device such as airbags on your car. They are there for a reason.

Its not illegal for the owner of the vehicle to remove safety restraints from his own car. You will need a hub with a airbag simulator resistor in place- this will fool the SRS computer into thinking the airbag is there and you won't have any gay SRS lights on the dashboard. I have a hub for a Maxima with a airbag simulator, its designed for a Momo/Sparco steering wheel.

I see, where can I get a hub with a resistor? Do the Ebay ones have em'?

props for the conversion. I think it would look very different. (as long as you dont mind losing the airbag)

C'mon! I wanna bolt on my steering wheel! :-P

I saw some "Grant" steering wheel installation kits at Kragen, those don't have any electronics on them.

for BlackBIRDVQ, can you tell me where to find a hub like that?

I got my hub from Hong Kong via an .org member who was there for a few weeks. I belive you can use a Sentra hub and it should work. I can't belive Nissan would use diff splines on a Maxima vs other models.

Um, do the 4th gen hubs work on our 5th gens?

And where can I find a darn SRS resistor?

...bump...

No one on this forum has a aftermarket steering wheel on their Maxima, so getting an answer is not going to be possible. Try using a 4th gen steering wheel, do some research on your own.
