i hav been challenged by a GIRL to race against her new v-6 mustang 2001....should i hav any worries?? she has a stick i believe and i hav an automatic se....ill probably use power shifting....but i hav no mods....should i race her?? i dont want to look bad against a girl....and if i CAN win...should i be nice or go ahead and take her??

Y2KevSE 05-30-2001 10:22 AM

If she can shift properly (redline), she'll beat you.

If I were you... :wall:

:D

yeh but those things hav under 200 hp
and they are pretty heavy
so u think i should hide huh?

power shifting is pretty close to manual
but u hav a point

KyMAXSE 05-30-2001 10:31 AM

I traded in my 99 V6 Mustang for my Max...

and it will be a very close race. They both feel about equally quick to me, I believe a manual V6 Mustang has a 0-60 around 7.1 sec and an auto Max about 7.5 sec...so, it probably would depend on the driver and how good of a start they got....good luck

good idea
does it help to hold the brakes and rev up the car, then let go of brakes to get jump on the mustang

Power shifting or not, an auto is still way slower than a manual. Our gearing is very widely spaced because it's only a 4-spd auto. This plus the fact that there is more power loss in an auto tranny, adds up to a much slower car.

At any rate, I say race her. It should be very close. And regarding the being a gentleman and letting her win comment, forget it. Remember, SHE challenged you!!!

I raced the same car yesterday, only the setup was a bit different...we both had sticks. He was in highschool so I don't know how seasoned his driving skills were. It was no contest. The max performed....the mustang didn't. He got mad and followed me most of the way home.

Good luck. I'd try it, she might not know how to drive her car properly. :spin:

if she gets the jump....can i catch up??
is the car fast enough....or its all about the start....i need some info...i cant lose to a girl....no offense to girls :)

Power braking is the only start tip I can offer. Push the brake down with your left foot and give the car gas with your right foot just before the light change. When you see green, pop off the foot on the brake while you jump on the gas with the other foot. It will give you a quicker launch. Aside from that...make sure to go to redline between shifts and you will be doingthe best that you can.

Rev too high and you'll spin. I suggest practicing quite a few times before the race so you can learn what rpm will give you the best launch.

WILLSE 05-30-2001 11:12 AM

come on pj race her.....i smoke v-6 all of the time no contest but i do have mods!! do it to see what happensif u go above 60mph u should win..... i always redline my 2nd gear which is 80mph and if im winning i let off if not keep on going try that all of the max's power comes at 6400 rpms so get it as close to redline with out hittin the rev limiter!!! good luck!

but u hav mods
i still hav stock....for another 1-2 months until i get everything except a torque converter and supercharger....HOPEFULLY

djmaxski 05-30-2001 12:16 PM

Have fun... a 2k1 'stang has about 195HP and a boat load of torque compared to us (in its 3.8L), so be careful off the line. I agree though, on the high end you can kiss her good bye :naughty: 'cause you should take her easy

dude, stop worrying too much, when the light go green, just stomp on the gas...practive a few times and you should get an idea of how your car launches the best....once you get in the high rpms, you'll start pulling on her...you win.
It's all psychological...

Well, slap on a few maxima.org stickers FIRST! It's a pretty cheap way to get about an extra 10 horses. Then, you'll have NOTHING to worry about!

RACE IT RACE IT RACE IT!!!!

i have a 5spd 4th gen with only an intake and mufler. i raced a new style GT auto and hung with it thrice up to about 80mph. i took the lead twice and he took the lead once. all three races were incredibly close but a few feet. i dont see how a 5sp V6 would be faster then an auto V8 so race it and see how it goes. i would put my money on the max...

hhmm....how r stickers going to giv me hp?? r u ok? and the mustang GT....i kinda dipped out of a race with that. a buddy has one and i backed out of a race cuz i thought it would kill me.....v8 vs v6....i thought it wasnt fair
oh well
ill race

jefferdy1 05-30-2001 06:04 PM

I'd say race her. I raced a guy from work in my 96 Altima who had a 99 Mustang V6 and I beat him with no mods on either car. Hell I even had a passenger and the A/C on full blast and still won.

how do u do it again? u just get a screw driver and punch it with a hammer a couple of times?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ....

Ok here are step by step instructions to punching out your cat.

1. Jack the front of the car up so that you can get under the car easily.
2. Right behind the Y pipe there should be the cat. It has a heatshield covering it.
3. There should be 4 screws to unscrew. You need a 14 MM IIRC. These bolts will be very difficult to remove. Try using WD-40 to loosen them up first. Use a breaker bar with a deep socket 14 MM. The screws are kinda long.
4. There is a sensor there as well. Be sure you remember how it goes back on.
5. After removing the cat. Find a paper grocery sack.
6. Using a deep long screwdriver start hammering out the honey comb inside. Try to get large chunks out first. This will make it easier at the end.
7. Continue "punching" out the cat until all is gone.
8. Replace the cat and put the sensor back on. bolt the cat back on tightly so it doesn't rattle.
9. If you feel no gains at all try reseting the ecu.
10. Enjoy.
