when you doing the board in the CD player. there are 2 screws down the bottom, and you just unscrew them.
I pulled out the ribbon once, and I worked for 2 months.
When I did it for the second time, I put 3 layers of Scotch tape on the back of the ribbon where it goes into the socket for more presure, problem solved.

Can someone answer as to how to take the head unit out of the dash to begin with?

Just tug on the ac unit from the top and it should come out? Then there should be a couple of bolts at the top of the bose to take it out? Correct?

On my 2000 the sounds cuts out too, was wondering if the Headunit in my Bose radio without changer contains the ribbon that causes this, if so I might give this a try.

There is a new ribbon you can buy that costs about $7 dollars instead of re-using the old one or putting scotch tape on it and hoping that it works.

Well, I just went through the tutorial pdf that was posted, and 4 1/2 hours later, no skipping! I'm very excited and don't really care that it's not a complete permanent fix as I plan to upgrade audio within a year or two. I now see why the cheapest to fix this is like 180 bucks. Very tedious, but worth it in the end. I can now listen to CD's again. Thanks again for the write up, helped a ton.

Definitely take your time because you will have screws everywhere if you're not careful. I printed out 2 copies of the instructions and laid my screws on that page in the order I took them out. This helped me big time when I was putting it back together. All in all it was about 4 or 5 hours.

My Bose Player is unable to play CDs. When I put the CD in, it makes noises like it is trying to read it, but eventually ejects it with an "Error" message. I tried multiple CDs, in the past, entering quality CDs would fix the problem; however, now none of the CDs work. I noticed, it started happening when the weather got cold. Did anyone expereince such an issue? If yes, what can be done to resolve it? Thanks for your help!

Sansanich,
I think your CD changer is shot. That happened to a friend of mines player so he just bought a new radio. You can replace it with something aftermarket, buy a used one off EBAY or from someone here, or send it in to get it fixed, (not cheap).

You will have to swap out the CD changer portion in order to fix the problem; it's not hard just a lot of small screws to keep track of. Good luck whatever route you go with.

These links are broken....... are there new ones posted up? I've refered people to this thread often, since it's such a common problem. It was a great write up and the pics that Chris.S posted were awesome, full of step by step detail. Any chance we can get those back and sticky it?

I'm experiencing CD Player problems also.
Poor quality playback, hitting top of player (dashboard) helps a little sometimes but left speaker has practically no sound most of the time.
Tried the link to mediafire but folder is currently" empty again. Please help.
Any other link to this document ??
Thanks.

I have this problem with an aftermarket HU (Pioneer DEH6000). Does anyone know why that might be? I have a 2002 Maxima SE, and I replaced the Bose CD headunit a couple months ago.

It's really not as hard as it looks. The instructions are very well layed out. Just be sure you have somewhere to put all the different tiny screws. I keep an old egg carton for jobs like this.

I would recomend replacing the cable instead of reusing it. I tried reusing it and the problem came back. It was a lot better but would still fade out. I just did it again using a new cable and it's been perfect. The cable was only a few dollars shiped. Well worth it considering the time it takes to do this.

Thanks a bunch!

Need Help With CD Audio Problem

Hi!

I tried finding the solution to my problem but wasn't lucky.

I have 02 Nissan Maxima GLE with std. Bose stereo system. The problem is that the audio track play intermittently, like they will play for a few seconds and then stop/break. It happens on all CD's. My FM radio works fine though. Is this a simple lens cleaning issue or something else. I have never had to deal with something like this before so I am not really sure what to do!

Thanks in advance!

Mak

I found a solution, a relatively easy way to add a direct line input to our Bose stock head unit without sacrificing any existing functionality by using the tape deck inputs of the internal amplifier. Please reply if you're interested.

I'm not going to write up anything since I don't have time. I'll post some pics tomorrow. It's very easy to do. And the sound quality is even better than CD.

So by using the tape deck input you're talking about being able to use an 02-03 bose head unit and using the tape input to be whatever you have hooked up the input.... Hopefully I understood correctly?

I havent gotten around to doing this. I kinda got used to it over time.. as it is just cds anyway. I am thankful these things have the tapes though!

Note: I have noticed during long trips.... the electrons build up enough at the broken connections to find a way to bridge the gap and actually create a full connection! and 30mins into a trip and the cutouts are eliminated. I had tested it a few times now.

^^Interesting, I had similar results, of playing for a while with the side being cut off, and then it would turn on by it self, but only until I hit the next bump on the road, worked only for a few seconds.

Trying to order the ribbon cable from Pac Parts: IBBON CABLE, 45P (J101 TO J1) Part Number: 039195701
The price of the cable is $4.88 and the shipping is $11.50 lol (shipping sucks!)
Going to be doing this fix as soon as the new ribbon cable arrives, will definitely post feed back (so far everyone has positive responses, which is great). Really hope I wont have to solder anything, although it doesn't seem difficult.

Just one question: How hard was it to removing the HU from the center console and a few steps after that? Any special tools needed? (except for a wide range of small Philips drivers)
Thanks to everything in this thread, you guys are awesome!
