People with auto trannys...
ya'll might wanna try this!! So my mom's 2k maxima now has 208k miles on it and her automatic transmission was slipping pretty bad on the 1-2 shift....well my grandfather recommended this stuff to me called B-12 Chemtool (in the same bottle as seafoam; found at your local auto parts store)....it's basically just like seafoam...well i poured a bottle of that stuff in my mom's transmission and drove it for a half hour...then i got home and did a full fluid flush and when i went out for a drive again, the slip was GONE! This has been going on for well over a year and probably 50k miles and it disappeared just like that! apparantly there was quite a bit of build-up inside the transmission and this stuff got it out just like that! If ya'll are having the same problem, i HIGHLY recommend doing this...it's extremely inexpensive, fast, and easy to do and it makes a world of difference.

wow...I've seen the b12 chemtool at all the automotive stores...didn't know it was that effective...nice find! since you said it's the same as seafoam, theres a type of seafoam called Seafoam Trans Tune...might be worth checking it out..

Very interesting... I just did a total tranny flush and added in the Lucas Oil stop slip stuff. I seems to work and the shifts are a little sharper. I'll have to check this stuff out. Thanks for the info...

speaking of auto trannies...my mom's 05 toyota camry with only 5k miles automagic seems to lag like hell in the 1-2 shift...this only happens if you really get on the gas pedal...I'd say anything below 50% throttle, the tranny shifts fine from 1-2...but above that, the 1-2 shift lags...it doesn't necessarily slip...it just lags like hell...i wonder if I should switch her over to synthetic ATF and the seafoam flush?

is the camry a v6? i've read that the v6 transmission have a slight lags on the camry and highlander. i also felt this when i test drove a camry v6 before i got the maxima. that was one reason i didn't get the camry because of the lagging feeling and handles like poo poo =/

B-12 Chemtool is what people use to clean carburetors that's been fouled up by carbon buildup, that stuff is pretty strong as GimmeTorq brought up. It might eat away some of the seals in the tranny, so I would be careful about using it.
The best thing to do for keeping the tranny from slipping IMO is to be dilegent about checking your tranny fluid and change it out when it starts going bad.

I have heard horror stories from some people who just flushed the tranny and next thing it went out. I would be careful doing this if you have not changed/flushed the tranny for a long time...Some of that build-up, i have read, will sometimes help the tranny

2k2 3.5L w/ 88k miles.
I put in AutoRX transmission cleaner. Drove for 1700 miles and then did a complete flush to Mobil1 synthetic transmission fluid. I don't notice smoother shifts or anything like that, but the car was shifting fine before I flushed it. I've always had luck with AutoRX products.

With slipping and old trannies I had good experience with Lucas Oil tranny helper. It is about 1 qt and helps the shifting and reduces slipping. The thing is thick as a glue...

on that!Your mom prolly doesn't want to hear this, but changing the ATF after 200k is a really bad idea unless you have been doing it at like 50k intervals.
ATF in its self is a pretty strong solvent and after that many miles it will flush out stuff that has been keeping seals and bands lubricated. I wouldn't flush my tranny after 100k (if its never been flushed before).
I've got $50 on the tranny starting to slip within 6 months
And the smoother shifts are undoubtedly a result of the new ATF and not the Chemtool or whatever.
