Poll: '00 - '01 taillights vs. '02 - '03's (OEM) POST PICS!
 

Hey guys, just wanted your opinions as to what you like better. I'm considering shopping around for some '00 - '01 SE tails for my '03 sheer silver (I think they'd look really good) -- I might be interested in a swap but would be more interested in seeing some pics first and getting some opinion input from some fellow .org members

I say stick with the 02/03 tails. They flow better on lighter color cars.

I think it really depends....i have a sterling silver 01 se (sig) and I had the JDM chrome housing angel eyes on for a while...but I never liked how the didnt match the smoked rear tails...so I just bought a pair of the black housing JDM projectors and mounted it up....it looks pretty aggressive at the front now w/ the black housing lights the sarona front bumper & hood. It depends a lot on the color of your vehicle...so +1 to the other members post.

I think they look and flow much better on the lighter colors. Keep your clear ones.

I'd stay clear (02/03) for your color of car. If you do both the head and tail lights black that might be OK as well but don't do one and not the other. Just my thoughts though.

i have the pearl white gle 2k max so it came with the red tail lights. i changed all outer cosmetics on car to 2k2 including front bumper,fogs,hids, entire stillen kit and so naturally i changed the tail lights as well to complete the updateing. However i liked the red lights better against the white. they have a chrome reflective surface right under the red which makes them always look really shinny and clean. But since they are associated with the older and lower end models i went with the 2k2. Imho i think the black se ones should have been the lower line/older ones. they remind me of a dodge neon rear. A co worker of mine had a white se before i changed mine and even he agreed that his black compared to the red were very plain looking/car cheapening. Now i'm not saying to go red, although they look best imo, because nissan"s great wisdom decided to put them on the lower models?? i guess they decided on our hideous front wheel gap that same day.:tardsmash If the 2k2's were not stock i would never go with them as they look very ricey , like the countless honda's with this aftermarket cheap look i see. But all in all i think the 2k2 are the best choise because they are the newest,not on the lower end models,and are accepted more readily because although they look aftermarket, they are in fact stock. imho

I also agree with 02themax, if you do both then it will look good otherwise stick with the clears.

I thing that the black taillight would look good with the sliver

I'd say stick with your 03 tails unless you smoke your headlights, get dark colored wheels, etc.

Right now, I recommend keeping the 03 tails and just painting the bottom portion red.

I prefer my smoked 02/03 tails. I'm going to get the orange painted red, and have the shop clear it, when I put another coat or so of VHT to get it a tad darker.

02/03 clears all red like mine... cheap and simple clean looking mod...

Light cars = 2k2/2k3 tails
Dark cars = 2k/2k1 SE tails

Yeah look at the car with the clear ones. It looks so much better with those. The black ones just don't flow with the car in any way.

I so agree. I wish the turns were clear with amber bulbs like the 2k tails but overall I am much happier with the look of the car.

Not sure where to get the "all red" with chome surrounds.

is there any way to get the clear housings on the '02/'03 tails with a red/clear combo instead of a red/amber combo? we should definitely look into this and try to get a group deal forum... i think that would REALLY take off don't you?

I like the black tails on silver cars better.

I prefer the clear tails on light colored cars. There was a local guy in Germantown, MD that smoked his tails on his silver '02. It looked pretty bad in my opinion: like a pepboys mod. :thumbsdown:

03maxima you can't buy them, you have to paint them yourself. It involves removing the lights and spraying translucent red paint into the amber side of the lens. It's easy but also easy to f--k up, but well worth it.

the tinted 03 tails look awesome.

if any of you with light exteriors are desperate for a set of the 02s, ill trade mine if you take care of shipping costs

I have these but I want the 02/03 SEs. The red bulb burns out and turns pink...I got pulled over in Tennessee when I moved down here.

you could get Red LED bulbs. Gives a nice deep red, no pinkness.

I would leave the 02s on and not paint your front headlights black. For your car color, it would flow better. but, if you are going to make your max look super aggressive, then black them out and your headlights and black out your chrome window trim too!

I want to make the turn signal portion of mine red, but id really like to get my hands on some 5.5 tails. But then again the grass is always greener on the other side.

Sorry fellas but im not really interested in trading/buying quite yet, id rather just buy a set and install em during my mardi gras or spring break, plus id like to keep my se tails just incase i dont like the 5.5 gens.

FYI... Here's the red tails from the 00-01. If I decide to redo my lights, I'll get some chrome tails form the 02-03.

I had the 00-01 black taillights on my 2000 Max SE, Grey Lustre finish and I like the look with the dark tails and the dark finish. I think the clear tails look better on the light finish cars, like my 2003 SE in Sterling Mist.
