O2 Sensors went out!

SEL light came on on a recent road trip. Had it serviced the next day, luckily for me I bought the extended warranty, dealer wanted $453 to replace the front and rear O2 sensors?

Any idea what caused this?

I have an 02 Maxima with 28,000 miles. Thanks!

same thing happened to my 2000 SE around the same amout of miles actually. i don't know actually what cased it but i was just driving down the highway and the SEL came on. went to dealer and they replaced sensor and my cat since i was under warranty. haven't had a problem since so i don't think its nothing to worry about.

My dealer charged me the same thing, my 2k1 has 90k on it. I originally though it was because of my intake, but it turned out to be my o2 sensor. I had them replace, and it and two weeks later it came back on. I didn't take it back because I knew I was getting the engine rebuilt the next week. (Bearings were Bad)

mine went bad too, at like 55k, along with the catalytic converter. no idea why, but got 2 sensors and the cc replaced for free under the 8 year/80k federal warranty or something like that.

Call another dealer. It should be replaced under the federal emissions warranty (8y/80K) from all that I have read and heard.

The Nissan warranty booklet says O2s are only covered to 3/36k, cats are covered till 8/80.

That would be OK for a secondary O2, so he could replace it with a sim. I would still go with a real O2 for primary... I think he lost one primary and one secondary... He could get a generic O2 for his primary that costs about $60 and sim for secondary for $30... Beats the $400+ dealer price

I forgot to mention. DO NOT replace primary O2 with Sim. only secondary. Primary is $60-$100, and 30 minutes of wrenching.

How strange. My light came on at 28,000 miles while I was driving down the highway. I had all 4 O2 sensors replaced under warranty. It was done per TSB NTB02-051A. I also had the ECM reprogrammed at the same time. I had codes PO139 and P1147.
