Will an 02, 03 SE Speedometer cluster work on 01 GXE?
 

My speedometer is acting funny in my 2001 GXE, i'm wondering if i should just replace the whole speedometer cluster. I found a cluster for a 2002, 2003 SE, I want to know if it will work plug and play and read speeds and mileage ok.

i think everything would work except the little screen in the RPM gauge (displays mpg temp etc.) it didnt come on a 2000-2001 only 2002+

I don't think it will work. My girl has a 2000 n i have a 2003. I've had both apart to install the reverse glow gauges, n from what i see the plugs look different. I could be wrong. why not just get the right ones?

plugs are the same, wires are in diff positions...

no it definitely wont work. go find an 00/01 se cluster on ebay. i found mine there for $40 shipped.

i can't seem to find an 01 on ebay right now, just 02s and 03s, so... I have a more technical question

will the face and dials be interchangable with my 01 gauge cluster? i like the look of the SE's and i'd like to keep my true mileage on the dash but my speedometer dial is screwing up so i need to replace the whole thing, Does anyone know if I can pop off the electronics from the guages and dials and swap? or is this too difficult

Yes, the gauges are interchangeable on the 2k-2k1 clusters. They are all seperate pieces, unlike the 2k2-2k3's.

iono if this is true but i heard that the milage of the cluster is actually recorded in the cluster not the ecu... anyone know if thats true or not?

yes the mileage is recorded in the cluster, not the ecu.

i think i worded my question wrong, what i mean was:

if i buy a 2002-2003 cluster, can i remove the front part (guages and dials), and put them on the back part of my 2001 cluster?, the speedo dial on my 2k1 cluster is messed up

No, the 2002-2003 clusters are one whole gauge face, whereas the 2000-2001's are all individual, seperate guage faces.

Definatwe answer as i have tried it on my 00 SE... If you have a 5.0 Gen then you can only go within the Generation.. the 5.5 Gen Speedo Cluster WILL NOT work on a 5.0 Gen... Dave B got me an 01 SE for 120 plus shipping....

In your case I'd just buy new programmed cluster.

He was trying to get a 5.5 gen cluster on a 5 gen. PPL said NO.

Now he asked a ? of a 01 cluster...YES, that would work. :jeffy:

someone said 5th gen will work in 5th gen which is what i have and what i got, they said 5.5gen wont work in 5th gen, so i stayed away

i guess i will find out when it gets here this week, ill will post my results for any help for anyone else that may ever search this

FYI, 00-01 has 2 different types of cluster. Earlier build has cluster with part number starting with "2Y"; has all the electonic components separate. The later build, with part number starting "4Y" has all the electronic components integrated. They are NOT interchangeable unless you do some rewiring. I am sure the 5.5th Gen will not work with the 5th Gen either.

OK, well here is how it all turned out, i bought a 2000 SE cluster for my 2001 gxe, plugs were the same hooked them up, everything lights up even the odometer, everything works, EXCEPT the speedometer and odometer, i drove around for about an hour, doing 0mph, and odometer not changing at all. tach and all other lights worked fine...so it seemed like the wiring in the white plug was a bit different, this also caused my alarm to act really funny which can be read here

what i ended up doing to fix this was disassembling both clusters, taking the dials out and swapping the electronics and putting together the one with 2001 electronics board, but using the 2000 gauges, now everything is working absolutely perfect, i'm very happy now i can see how fast i'm going

Glad to see it work out for you. Now, what are you going to do with the old cluster? I may want to take it off your hands if you are willing to get rid of it.:nod:

it has black faces, but blue indiglo lites are on the white faces, you can take them off if you want stock black, but its missing all the abs/door open/signal/service engine/gear selection stock covers, if you like the idea of white i have those and they are real bright, electronics for 2000 should work, pm an offer if you still want
