So far fo rme it looks like right at 70mph. I get about 30mpg at 68 ot 70mpg but it drops off relatively quick especially once I get above 75.

What's everyone else's observed best MPG?

i have a 2k, and I just took a trip basically all highway, filled up half way because gas was too cheap to resist. But for the first half of my tank, i got 31 MPG!! I was cruising at a pretty constant 76-78. put a smile on my face

From my experience, the slower the better. In 6th gear at around a constant 50mph or so maybe.

I don't know how you guys are getting 2-3mpg OVER the EPA #s...while cruising at a speed higher than the speed limit (more load on the engine, more aerodynamic drag)....the EPA estimates these #s most likely below the speed limit of 65mph...so these #s your getting, its truly a gift

I have hit 32MPG by staying at 115Kmph. This is with no over taking and no crazy acceleration. I think RPM was just below 2500

It depends on your RPM, not MPH, IIRC the optimal RPMs for fuel efficiency is something between 2000 to 2500 for these cars. Its in the manual somewhere.

I didn't realize it read that high on the 5th gen. I think even in my 4th gen 5-spd, it registered 80 mph @ around 3k rpms, iirc. Next time I'm in one, I'll have to pay attention to that.

My mileage is pretty sad, I'm average 17-18mpg on a full tank, but that's mostly city. I havn't really done a highway test yet.

Is everyone going by the trip computer or actually figuring out the mpg's yourselves? It's well know that the trip computers in the 5.5 gens is 3-4 mpg's higher than what you actually get for mpg. The best I've ever gotten in my max is 28 mpg hwy @ 75 mph.

Or they have tires with less resistance than stock. My gas milage in my camry was about 21 w/ my snows, ~24 with my summers. Tires make a huge difference (as does proper inflation).

I've checked my MPG the last few times I've filled up with good old calc. and I am getting anything from 25-26.5 MPG city. Not bad i guess? I think it falls in lines with the EPA's rating. I get 30 MPG on the highway.

wow...ive driven straight highway windows closed at 65-70 MPH..i usually get about 24 25 mpg..i dont go by the trip computer its def way off. i use premium fuel only..wondering if when you use regular would you get different mileage? but driving hard city and highway i get about 19-20 mpg thats driving pretty hard. im satisfied with my mileage...i would rather pay more for gas than have a slow a$$ 4cylinder lol. ohh also would your motor oil affect mileage at ALL? like synthetic...would it make a difference?

His point being that the thread title pertains to 02/03 Maximas, ot 00/01.

how about at in neutral, down-hill, with the wind? I got around 90 mpg going donw the mountains in western MD.

It all has to do with RPM. Keep it between 2,000 and 2,500 and you'll get the best milage. Also, don't use cruise control.

While we are all talking about MPG, has anyone done any testing to see if the windows down is better than windows up with A/C on? I read in the paper local here that the "newer cars" will do better on gas with the windows up A/C on. The funny thing about this is Myth Buster's did a test on this with trucks, however, they got 30 more miles out of the windows down truck.

Leaving me a little confused, and wondering what others think, or have experienced?

59.9 actually is the highest they're allowed to test. Most modern hwy tests are conducted between 55 and that top 59.9 mph.

That 30 more miles could have been from a variety of factors...modern cars dont seem to be adversly affected by AC like older cars. Partly because of advances in technology and partly because of increased engine power we have today.

Now as far as the myth busters go, they made the trucks as equal as possible. Bother were new, same miles, style, and options. They both were equal in LBS even with driver. Same speed on a circle test track.

My MPG dosn't seem to be much different on highway unless I do 80MPH or more. Which is rare. I get the 30MPG at 70-75 MPH

That's one question that I've read stong opinions for both sides. In my experience it's actually about the same with the wondows down or AC on. My brother has a 4cyl accord and he swears he gets way better mpg's with the wondows down and no AC.

Depending on the year of the car I could see that easily...typically the less powerful the car the bigger difference the AC makes.
