time to replace o2's?
im getting close to 75k on my 00, since im going to have my headers installed soon, would it be a good idea to just replcae the o2s while theyre in there? how long do our o2s seem to last? id figure theyve gotta be getting old and will prob go soon, right?
thanks all. |
What effect will a bad o2 sensor have on your drivablilty? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think o2's were that difficult to replace either way.

i was under the impression that a bad o2 besides triggering a ses would be riching out and lose of power/mpg.
i know theyre not hard to replace, but living in the rust belt cant help |
I would personally save my money if the MPG's are still good and the engine is running fine. I mean, one of the sensors could go out in 1k miles, but it might last another 50k miles. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Just my .02

All my 3 O2s died between 60-70K... I would use them till they go and then replace as they die as it is a lot of $ to shell out at once...

I bought my 01 in 10/2000 and I average about 30/35k per year on my car. 3 years ago I paid almost $300 for the stealership to replace my O2 sensor when I had 85k on the car (only after 2 years of driving). The same sensor went out about 40k later, but the mileage remained the same. Now I have about 170k miles on the car and the mileage is still the same even though one of the sensors is bad.

o2's seem like one of those things you can just let go til they go bad. is that wrong? cause if theres no light then they should be working fine right? that can also be wrong cause you can say the same about spark plugs. they might be getting you worse mpg and performance and causing bad emissions but bad plugs wont throw a code so why change them? thats a BAD idea.

my sensor have been bad since 4 years ago... the mpg still the same and the power still good, will replace them maybe some day.. no $$$ to do it

Replacing mine (00' SE - Cali emissions spec - blew P0138 and P0140) this weekend with o2's from Dave B. Have 140K on my baby and get the exact mileage I got when I bought it 6 years ago. Agree with larsony, if it aint broke.....

Just replaced mine at 90k after an SES light on. In NJ, can't pass inspection with warning lights on. I agree, wait till htey fail.
