After putting on a VERY gentle 1700 miles, i decided to see what my max really has. Saturday night I took it to the dragstrip and ran it 5 times over the length of 5 hours. Here are the results:
1st run - vs. late model Honda Civic = won w/ a 16.2 2nd run - vs. '98 240sx = won w/ a 15.9 3rd run - vs. '02 Acura TL-S = lost w/ a 15.8 At this point, I am really ticked off. I asked another guy there with a '00 Maxima what he did to get good launches (I was spinning bad). He says either do a burnout or rev it to 3000 and let out the clutch without burning the clutch. I decided not to do the burnout on the next run, but I did take his advice on the other. IT WORKED!!! 4th run - vs. '00 Mustang GT (no mods) = won w/ a 15.6 Right at the end of the night, the guy with the TL-S came up to me again after seeing my last race and said he wanted to go again for $200. My friends hate this guy as much as i do, so we rounded up some cash at the race was on. This time I did a burnout to try and screw with the guy. 5th run - vs. '02 TL-S = WON! w/ a 15.3 I know that sounds crazy, but the slip doesn't lie and I am $200 richer! |
Good for you! 15.3 is fairly obtainable with a 5 speed. Some guys are in the high 14's, so I believe you easily. What did the TL-S run in the money race?
|
Good racing and winning, but where do you race where these cars are so slow. A new GT running high 15s is the saddest thing I've heard today. That car should be running mid 14s with an idiot driving.
I wouldn't bother doing burnouts because they are completely pointless with radial tires. Radial tires are very different from "slicks". Drag slicks are made out of a completely different type of rubber that gets very sticky when heated. Radials on the otherhand, get oily and slick if you do a burnout therefore making for worse launching. Radials perform better cold. All you need to do is spin you tires for a 1/2 second to get the dirt and debris off. Sometimes I don't even do that. I just wind up to 3500rpms, quickly slip the clutch, get a little spin and hop, and I'm in the 2.2 60' range. What were your trap speeds and 60'. Russ ran his stock 01 SE to a 15.3@91 a couple weeks ago with a 2.3 60 foot. Dave |
i am at work right now and don't have my slip. I will get those #'s for you or just scan the slip. The guy in the Mustang spun his wheels on the start and I didn't. I am sure that would have been closer or he would have one if he had launched good. The TL-S's time was 15.5 and the guy kept on saying the traction control was on which slowed him down. Oh well, a win is a win. And for the location, I am in SC where the strip temperature was 98 degrees at 5:00 and 89 degrees at 9:00 with 94% humidity.

Great Job Silver Max! Sounds like you represented well at the track. Way to step up and take the bet against the TL-S.
|
He has no excuse, especially since he has an auto. If he's going to race for $200, he should remember to turn off traction control. Did he pay up without a fuss?

...next thing you know, he might tell you he forgot to turn "on" his headers" - - LOL
yeah, he paid up without any trouble. The guy probably ran his car 20 times that night. The line to run was VERY short. Two of my friends won $$ off of him too. He thought he could beat an late '90's M3. The guy killed him. |

That is hillarious!!! He thought he could take a late 90's M3??? Wow that bloated TL-S has got to his head for sure! Too funny! BTW nice win...$200 on the track makes it a lil more worth it especially if you are doing burn outs on your street tires.

I had to see if the guy posted on Acuratl.com. He did and it is pretty funny. Look at his signature. The '01 Max is his brother's and the M5 was his dad's!

Here's a tip: take the $200 you won from the dude and invest in a CAI or a y-pipe. That'll tick 'em off! :jump:

When VSA is on and I floor it off the line, the whole car jerks back and stops accelerating till the wheels catch grip again. I'm sorry, but leaving VSA on is a critical mistake. You should not loose to a maxima 5-speed WITH VSA OFF no matter what year the maxima is and if it had an intake or not. The worst that could happen is a tie (and that would be with an EXCELLENT maxima driver). __________________ 2002 Satin Silver TL-S With Navi Xenon Plus Fog Light Bulbs Report this post to a moderator | IP: Logged |
Re: Sounds like I would have been toast if he had turned it off...
What a bunch of jokers! The guy is on the "TRACK" why all of a sudden did he turn it on or not be aware of it especially when racing on a track?? What was his winning time from the first race and losing time of the second race? Civic brains in a TL-S body...says you are using NOS (gimme a break) then this traction thing??? You won! He lost! Now the excuses kick in! Too bad his VTEC didn't!
Where do you find these guys? I could use an extra 2 bills every couple of days. PS If you are racing for money on the track inspect his car for NOS and any upgrades he may have "forgotten" to mention. Let him do the same with your car...then he will only have his traction button excuse and can't just throw NOS in there too! What made you bet the $200 if he beat you (4 lengths by his comment) the first race? Are you his friend or his brother with the 2K1 5pd?? The fact he won the first race (non cash race) and then you hit it good on the second CASH race...makes me say "hmmmm" you a hustler or something?? Originally posted by 99silvermax 2k2SilverTL-S Gold Registered: Mar 2001 Location: Ridgewood, NJ USA Posts: 100 I read in your other post that you left the VSA on.....That slows down my TL-S TREMENDOUSLY. Good Advice Phat...
The guy's brother has a Maxima just like mine except he has all of the options on it.
I didn't think about the first run. He actually had a 15.6 on that run which means his second run (15.5) was faster! The guy used to have a '84 CRX that he put a 1.8 turbo in. That car was very fast, just VERY undependable. When he got the TL-S, he thought he could kill everyone. No such luck. I did check out his car and he had a cone filter and headers. He said they were stock headers that had been polished, but I don't know why any anyone would do that. I haven't ever seen after market headers for a TL, but these didn't look stock. I decided to race for $ on the 2nd run because my friends rounded up $160 so all I would be loosing was $40 if i lost. |
Check this longer post about being killed by a Maxima
Here is the whole story and some more from the TL-S board. Seem like Bitium got catch in a lie about losing to the Maxima quite a few times. Isn't he the one that came over to raise hell last time on this board? The truth is finally out!

Re: Check this longer post about being killed by a Maxima
Hillarious..pure humour I remember that guy Bitium! I don't see too many cl-s or tl-s on the road guess they aren't selling too well??? These guys have to justify their over priced under performing car somehow?? Too funny!
