Confused: Headers or Y-Pipe on 3.0DE-K
Not to bash anyone at all, but I'm getting the run around. Some say headers for the 3.0, some say its pointless since I have a y-pipe already.
I know the 5.5 has the pre-cats in the headers making it great for them and the 5.0 in the Y-pipe. I currently have a Budget Y-pipe.
My mods will consists of, short arm intake, Hi-Flo cat, B-pipe, VQ35 cams, VB mod, SAFC-II, AFPR.
Now is it worth spending $850 for Headers and selling my current Y-pipe? I have not seen any dyno plots to proove this. But experience and knowledge would be great as I'm getting many different answers in regards to this mod.
Thanks,

If you're posting in this particular forum, you want to go with headers.
Of course the cost/benefit ratio is up to the individual, and from a financial standpoint, not wroth it. But IMO, it IS worth it.
No one on here has dynoed w/ headers and a tune on a DEK up to this point. Closest was DandyMax. (his last dyno reflected bolt ons, 00vi, & a/f tuning ONLY, no timing) and he has the highest recorded VQ30 DJ 248 SAE record.
If you're going so far as to add VQ35 cams, just do the headers. It will make your set-up more complete and eliminate any doubt or 'coulda shoulda woulda' skepticism.
Do it right or go home.

The whole point of headers is to change where you want your rpm band to be. Meaning do you want more top end or more low to mid range. Its very hard to have everything. You have to look at the design of headers. You have short headers and you have long headers. The headers on the v6 is all 3 to 1. On V8's you have the option of going 4 to 2 to 1 or 4 to 1.
The shorty headers are better for mid range while longer headers are more for up top. This is why its important to understand where you want your power at. And this all depends on let say a drag setup or a autocross setup.

Thanks, I'm looking at a quarter mile car (obviously no competion thing, just personal preference). I have budgeted to go with the Cattman's. I'm thinking if I should just go ahead, complete theVQ35 cams/ SAFC-II, AFPR then dyno tune and see where that will put me first then see if Headers would be a worth while mod for me. Or maybe instead of getting headers, that money can go towards an E-Manage.

It's just one of those things. If you have to ask if it's worth it, it's not for you. No offense, of course. Most people that buy headers buy them for reasons including, but not limited to, HP gains.

Ok I have the money for headers no problem. Based on what I listed and currently have on the car now. Would this be worth it at the present time then. Instead of getting the headers, would it be better to go with an E-Manage instead of the headers for the DE-K, then worry about headers down the road. What what would be the best bankg for the buck at the moment?
-Cattman Headers and stick with SAFC-II?
-Greddy E-Manage and stick with current aftermarket Y-Pipe?

Its not about bang for the buck anymore. Its about which tuning device will yield the most gain. The SAFC-II can do fuel trimming and advance timing, but the EU can do all of that plus more. So you have to decide if you want more control over the car or are you satisfied with the SAFC-I which is subpar to the EU.

Get them both, don't cut corners.

Ultimately its going to be your descision to choose which setup up you want. Just remember that if you get the EU first and than get the Headers your more than likely going to have to retune the car.

Speed, I'm aware I may need to re-tune. Not worried about that.
