What is the first performance part you bought?
 

I'm just posting this poll because I just dont know what to do first.... I've been leaning towards: 1st coilovers 2nd light clutch/alum. flywheel 3rd full exhaust 4th intake 5th Big brake kit, I just wanted some ideas as to where other people started.

Tein coilovers...ES motor mounts...ES shifter bushings..Cattmaa Headers..SS Testpipe..Cattman Catback.

Waiting on some more parts.

my top 5 mods are
1. intake
2. springs/struts
3. RSB
4. exhaust- headers, b-pipe, muffler
5. light weight wheels (forged)

I did a Berk intake and then Truax SFC's. Next is my Eibach springs with Illuminas. The rest is just cosmetics

If you have a 5th gen, I firmly believe the first mod should be brakes. I don't have a BBK but I have aftermarket parts. Brembo rotors and Hawk HPS pads forever!

I did the berk intake and was very satisfyed.

I did the intake first, but if I did it over again the first thing would be Hawk pads, then a nice spring/strut combo (I have coilovers and don't recommend them for the weak at heart or those who don't *like* to work on their cars every other week), and finish it off with a RSB and FSTB. At that point it's headers, then intake, and finally a nice e-manage unit with a little bit of tuning with a sprinkling of light weight rims on top. If you're still hungry for power, step up to nitros or turbo charging it. Oh, and a 6th gen bbk is always nice. mine stops better than most sports cars out there.

I'd rather performance and handling over ride comfort, I've got to do more research on the coilover vs piecing together a nice spring/strut combo. As for the rims, to be honest, I love the way the stockies look, but yes, I do wish I could get them lighter. As for the headers, I'm afraid I'll notice a big drop-off in low-end torque, is it that noticeable?

Trust me (even ask Irish if you don't trust me), go with the spring/strut combo. Mine held better on stock struts and maxspeed springs than the D2's I have (and I have them adjusted about as well as anybody can possibly get them). There are light-weight aftermarket rims that look simular to the stockers and can give you that performance gain. As far as the headers are concerned: I don't think the torque will drop off as much as you'll gain horse power making it feel like you lost torque, if you know what I mean.

Get rid of your RSB then... even D2s should outperform any spring/shock combo available for us...

And to the OP.. it might be more wise to do coilovers after you do your major mods, that way you avoid the risk of having to replace/repair a blown strut before you even get to spend money on other mods. I certainly wish I had done this..

Don't have one. The springs are just too damn stiff for the struts on the D2s. poor design. Causes a little too much bounce.

I think most would agree that putting an intake should be the first thing done to a car, if you are going to continue to mod it.

Oh yeah and the first thing I did was install Injen CAI.

If you wind up doing suspension before intake & brakes, I say stay away from coilovers unless you're hardcore into suspension tuning. check the threads. If you don't want them dead in 20k you'll need to yank'em every winter, and some have the adjustment nuts loosening on a weekly basis. OR, if you have $1400 burning a hole in your wallet you could prolly snag the Tein SS coilovers with the EBDC(whatever; it allows in-car adjustment through a remote)

Alright, decided to do something simple first, I just bought the Berk intake w.Apexi filter. Anyone want a stock-sized K/N air filter?

Full tank of gas, New tires and New brake pads and rotors.

I personally say clutch/flywheel, do to the element of suprise, you'll rev up faster accelerate faster etc, im more into the sleeper kinda thing.

I bought a suspension setup (Illuminas and Eibachs) and catback exhaust (Cattman) at the same time. They were definitely worth it

My first mods
 

I upgraded the front rotors from warped blanks to EBC dimpled-slotted (they make a cool sound when you squeeze the pads on them), replaced rear rotors to new blanks (rusting now, though, so they're probably next) and put Raybestos Ceramic pads all around. Then, I upgraded the tires from some Cooper Zeon/Capitol Negotiator ghetto mismatch set to a new set of Kumho Ecsta AST. Oooooooohhh nice and grippy. I even went with 225 instead of 235, and still have awesome grip and handling. We'll see how they wear.

SHuggsUNC...you can do the 6th gen brake upgrade for about $400 (calipers, rotors, pads, SS lines).

i got HID 6k

Cattman cat-back, fast-cat & y-pipe all at once. I really noticed the gain after the berk/a'pexi intake.

Anyway, just put the new Berk w/Apexi on, I like the sound, you dont need to hear it unless you want it to be heard, which is key for driving around at 2am in Albany.
With the money I won from the casino this weekend, I'm gonna be buying either a frankencar cat-back (sounds the least ricey I think, it seems to be more of a "classy" performance sound) or a 350z clutch w/ a findanza alum flywheel.

Even tho its not a true performance part. I bought an o2 sensor. It boosted my gas mileage though. hahaha. But first thing i will probably get an intake hand maybe full exhaust to get the car breathing better.
