AE shift knob removal & leather boot ?

This is kinda sad, but I can't figure out how to remove the shift knob.... I got a new knob and leather boot the other day. Is there a pin holding the knob together or do I just twist it off? For the leather boot I presume I have to take apart the shift console? And what exactly is the boot holding onto?

Thanks guys

Twist off hella hard. Use Vices if you don't have enough oomph.

i want to change mine too...but my shift knob is weird...u gotta pull up on this little thing so that you can shift it into reverse. this seems to make changing the knob alot more complicated. not sure though.

listen to maxboost, you have to twist off hella hard, I have a 01 AE and i also changed my shift knob, i had to use vise grips to take it off, I tore the hell out of the stock shift knob.

This thread is pretty funny, i was just in the garage the other day trying to pull my stock "plastic looking" shift knob off my max. I bought a AE knob from Courtesy Nissan the other day for about $60. The garage door was closed and i started sweating my BALLS off. I decided to just leave it till my B&M sts gets here.

<Glad i wasnt the only one having this problem>

glad you dont have to remove the knob to replace the boot on the 6-speed
